There's a Lot to Be Thankful for in Memphis

I'm not really one to get all sentimental, but when I asked people on Facebook and Twitter what parts of Memphis they were thankful for, the responses made me feel even better about Memphis and the people who live here. Here are some of the reasons Memphians have to be thankful: - Midtown. Midtown was mentioned more than any other neighborhood when I asked what people were thankful for in Memphis. I totally get it - Midtown has great food, nightlife, music, and shops. I'm thankful I get to call it home. - The Levitt Shell. It's nice to see Memphis's best outdoor venue (where Elvis once played) in use again, especially when that use is free family-friendly shows and events. - Delicious water. I've said it before and I'll say it again - Memphis has amazing tap water, and for that we should be thankful. - Diversity. Memphis is a completely unique city made up of different neighborhoods, types of people, foods, etc. We're lucky to live somewhere with so many different people, traditions and events. - A thriving local music scene. Memphis has always been known for its musical history. But Memphis music isn't just Elvis and Sun and Stax. It's a big group of talented people, studios, record stores and labels who are making a name for the city on a national stage. - Sense of community. From Midtown to Orange Mound to Cordova, Memphis has a great sense of community. Neighbors take care of each other and their neighborhoods. I love the feeling of optimism and potential that lives in neighorhoods and organizations across the city. - Great people. Seriously. I challenge you to find better. Happy thanksgiving, Memphis.
