This Weekend in Memphis: 10/9 - 10/11
It's going to be a busy weekend in Memphis, everybody. If you're headed out tonight, don't forget your rain boots. Now on with the shortlist!
1. Indie Memphis Film Festival, Studio on the Square 10/9-10/15
The Indie Memphis Film Festival was recently named one of the 25 coolest film festivals in the country. Check out all of the great independent films (many made by Memphians or Mid-Southerners) showing at Studio on the Square in the coming week. Tickets to most individual showings are $8 for evenings and $6 for matinees.
2. Repair Days, National Ornamental Metal Museum, Oct. 9-11
If you've got any metal items that have fallen into disrepair, bring them to the National Ornamental Metal Museum this weekend. They claim to fix everything but "cats, cars and broken hearts". Estimates are free, and Saturday is family fun day with lots of activities for everyone.
3. Memphis Heritage 2009 Architectural Auction, Saturday, 6:30 p.m., $55
If you've ever wanted to own a piece of Memphis, get to the Memphis Heritage Auction. Hundreds of Memphis icons (like the Memphis Tobacco Bowl neon sign) are being auctioned off in Memphis Heritage's big annual fundraiser.
4. Rock'n'Roll, Brews and Q, The Warehouse, Friday 7 p.m., $30
The Orpheum Theatre is having it's second annual Brews and Q party tonight at the Warehouse (on G.E. Patterson facing the train station). There's going to be live music from the One Four Fives and the Earnestine & Hazel's house band, complimentary Corky's Barbecue and a silent auction.
5. Scott H. Biram and the Memphis Belles at the HiTone, Saturday, 11 p.m., $10
It's a night of dirty and pretty at the HiTone. Scott Biram is a down and dirty rock'n'roller who refuses to die (no really - he got hit head on by an 18-wheeler and was onstage again a month later). The Memphis Belles are gaggle of gorgeous burlesque dancers. This one's going to be fun.
