This Weekend in Memphis - 10/30-11/1

Halloween weekend in Memphis, spooky, scary! Get out your costume - you'll have plenty of reasons to wear it.

1. Halloween on the Island, Mud Island, Saturday, 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. $2

Mud Island is going all-out for Halloween. They're going to have a haunted river walk with trick-or-treat stops, hay rides, haunted train rides, candy, and games. It's a good family-friendly alternative to the usual door to door candy hunting.

2. Haunted Happenings, Woodruff-Fontaine House, Friday, 7, 8 and 9 p.m., $10

Go on a ghost tour of the most haunted house in Victorian Village and listen to the stories of people who have had personal interactions with the home's spirit residents. There will be appetizers and drinks available in the carriage house. After, head over to Mollie Fontaine's Lounge for drinks and dinner.

3. Look Away, Theatreworks, 10/30-11/8, $15

Look Away is a play about the Civil War and zombies. Seriously. It touches on themes like loss, redemption, family, bloodlust, brains, war, and prejudice (possibly prejudice against the undead). This sounds like it's going to be pretty wonderful.

4. Friends for Life Halloween Benefit, Bridges, Saturday, 9 p.m., $35

The annual Friends for Life Halloween costume party is always a great time (and all proceeds go to benefit the work of the Mid-South's oldest AIDS organization).  The theme this year is "Under the Big Top", and there will be costume contests, entertainment, and the opportunity to see and be seen for a great cause.

5. Bacchanal I, The Cove, Saturday 11 p.m., Free

The Cove (one of my favorite local bars) is having their first ever Halloween Bacchanal. There's no cover, plenty of drink specials, DJ Raja, and costumes are "encouraged". Another reason to hit the cove: their Sazerac (a drink from pre-Civil War New Orleans) is delicious.
