Reasons to Love Memphis #6 - Main St. Hound Dogs
There aren't tons of pretzel, hotdog orcoffee vendors in Memphis, and we definitely don't have the street food selection (Halal, Korean, etc.) that other cities have.
But, what we lack in variety, we make up for in quality and enthusiasm.
This is Christopher McRae, owner of Main St. Hound Dogs.
McRae left the unstable world of architecture and real estate and opened Main St. Hound Dogs so that he could control his own employment destiny (and feed the hungry people of downtown Memphis).
Since May, he's parked his cart on the southeastern corner of Union and Main six days a week (Mon. - Sat.). He sells tasty hot dogs and fresh-squeezed limeades. I can vouch for the cherry limeade - it's not too sweet and not too tart.
McRae answers a lot of questions, but he also does some asking - every day, he posts a trivia question on his whiteboard. Get the answer right and he'll give you a prize.
I recommend following Main St. Hound Dogs on Twitter - he sends out the daily trivia question, secret passwords for discounts on food and drinks and any changes in his normal hours.
Or, you could just stop by and see him. He's usually on the corner from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. during the week and from 12 p.m. - 5 p.m. on Saturdays.
