Gonerfest Barbecue at the Buccaneer

Sadly, I got to the Goner Fest barbecue at the Buccaneer too late to see the Sh*tty Beach Boys (a band that plays Beach Boys covers badly). I did get to meet them, though. This is Fred and Robin: I did make it in time to see Memphis's own Useless Eaters. Jay Reatard played bass for them, which was pretty cool. All of the barbecue bands were pretty good, but the Useless Eaters were my favorites. The Thomas Function and the Mantles also played. The Mantles had a bit of technical difficulty at the beginning of their set. I'm not quite sure what happened, but I think their very cute drummer lost a cymbal in the middle of the first song. There were plenty of great outfits - as usual, the girls outdid the boys with their vintage dresses, sunglasses and cute boots. Golden Ticket holders were able to pick up a cup and drink all of the cheap beer they wanted. All in all, a good time was had by all. I'm looking forward to tonight's show at the Hi-Tone (especially Davila 666 at midnight). If you're there, come say hi.
