Rock for Love returns this weekend
Rock for Love returns this weekend
I have some major, unabashed love for the Church Health Center. They provide low-cost health insurance and health care to uninsured working Memphians and plenty of local musicians.
Church Health Center is also responsible for Hope and Healing. It's more like a community center than a gym. Sure, there are workout machines and classes, but there's also an art room, children's center, cooking classes and reading room. The best part is that the membership fees are income-based.
This weekend is the third annual Rock for Love, a weekend-long series of rock shows that benefits the Church Health Center. Money from the shows (which feature some of the best bands in Memphis) goes to help the center continue to provide health care to thousands of people in Shelby County.
Admission to the concerts at the HiTone is $10 per night or $18 for both nights.
Here's the lineup:
Friday, Aug. 21 @ the Hi-Tone (Music starts at 9 pm) John Paul Keith and the One, Four, Fives, The Warble, Pezz, The New Mary Jane, Blair Combest (emcee: Gary Parrish)
Saturday, Aug. 22 at Shangri-La – Sounds of Memphis Rock for Love 3 Day Party (free day show, 1 to 7 p.m.)
The Simpletones, The Bullet Proof Vests, J.D. Reager & The Cold Blooded Three, Snowglobe, Organ Thief (emcee: Chris Vernon with 730 Fox Sports live remote broadcast)
Saturday, Aug. 22 at the Hi Tone (music starts at 9 p.m.)
River City Tanlines, Two Way Radio, The Magic Kids, Jeffrey James & The Haul, Jason Freeman (emcee: Al Kapone)
See you there!
