Dent happens: the National Ornamental Metal Museum’s annual Repair Days are coming up on October 17 – 20, 2019.

Smithy, National Ornamental Metal Museum, Memphis, Tenn.

During Repair Days, metalsmiths from all over the country volunteer their time to travel to Memphis and turn the Metal Museum into a giant repair shop for busted metal items of all kinds.

Here’s how it works: you bring your broken, dented, bent, dull or otherwise defective metal item to the Metal Museum between Thursday and Saturday. The smiths will have a look at it, give you an estimate for how much it will cost to fix and take it for the weekend. On Sunday, you can pick your items up. The proceeds from the repairs will benefit the museum, which is the only one of its kind in the U.S.

On Saturday October 19th, the museum will host a special day of family activities and demonstrations during the day. That night, they’ll host a silent auction (open to the public) and a ticketed Art + Auction Dinner. See the full schedule.

Repair Days at the Metal Museum is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. from Thursday through Saturday and pickup is from noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday. They’re open later on Saturday for the auction and dinner.

I write about what’s going on with Memphis music, food, arts, events, sports, people, and culture. Memphians love Elvis and barbeque with a passion that must be seen to be believed, but there is so much more to this place.
