Announcing The Memphis Bike Map

The City of Memphis, a committee of local cycling enthusiasts and bike-related business owners, and the Memphis CVB have been working very hard for the last several months on a new project that's going to make a big difference to locals and visitors who want to ride their bikes around town: The Memphis and Shelby County Bike Map.

It's still a few weeks before the map is complete, but I am so excited about this that I couldn't wait to share it with you. If you're planning a biking trip to Memphis later this spring or summer, I wanted to give you a heads up on this handy resource that we'll have for you by then.

What is it? The Memphis Bike Map will be a map of the Memphis area with about 60 miles of bike lanes, trails, and bike-friendly thoroughfares marked, plus info on bike repairs and rentals.

When will it be available? We want to be sure that all the details are right, so it will be another couple of weeks before the Memphis Bike Map is released.

Be sure to check back on this site; I'll update this post to include ordering and link info. Or, better yet, follow me on Twitter for up-to-the-minute updates on this and tons of other stories and Memphis info.

How was it put together? The folks mentioned at the start of this post worked with professional, experienced mapmakers to create the map and all information included.

Who is it for? Anyone who wants to ride a bike on Memphis area on trails or roads, for leisure or commuting. It's for locals or visitors, and for cyclists of all levels. Whether you're on a tricycle or a fancy racing bike, this will come in handy.

How much does it cost? It's free!

How do I get one? You will be able to access the bike map online on your computer or on your smart phone while you're riding around. I'll share a link as soon as the map is ready.

If you want a hard copy, you'll be able to pick those up at several locations around town. Again, I'll update that info as soon as the map is ready.

One more thing: The Harahan Bridge Project will connect downtown Memphis and Arkansas with a pedestrian- and bike-friendly bridge crossing the Mississippi River. It will be added to the Memphis Bike Map once it's completed next year.

Hi, did this bike map ever come out? I would love to get my hands on a (digital) copy. I googled "Memphis and Shelby County Bike Map" and nothing came up, nor anything under the Memphis CVB site. Thanks!
