Wednesday News Update: I Fought the Law Edition
It's Wednesday, and you know what that means - tons and tons of local news about everything from farmers market openings to stadium updates and laws that you may or may not have known about.
- I had no idea that it wasn't illegal to drive with a dog (or, as this article points out "any other animal") in your lap in Tennessee, but it is - at least for the next two weeks. After that, Fido needs to find somewhere else to sit.
- Farmers market season is upon us. Hungry Memphis has a handy list of market opening dates.
- Congratulations to Rabbi Micah Greenstein from Temple Beth Israel - he was named one of the top 50 rabbis in America.
- The long-abandoned Hotel Chisca on S. Main Street could be something great. Right now, though, it's an awkward, sketchy visual divider between the South Main Arts District and the downtown core. The good news is, the DMC is hoping to do something about that.
- Tiger Lane (aka, the former fairgrounds) looks so good now, so it's awesome that the city council has approved major updates for Liberty Memorial Stadium.
- Attention artists - the V&E Greenline's first ever art walk is looking for vendors. Also, GPAC is looking for professional / working artists to display their work at the theatre for the 2012 - 2013 season. To apply, submit your CV and digital files of your work to [email protected].
- Lastly, I've been doing a little spring cleaning around I Love Memphis this week. There's a brand new header, a new about page, an updated FAQ and the return of the I Love Memphis sign (let me know if you want your picture taken). Also, look for more guest posts from Memphians that are doing great things for the city.
