5 Things to Do in Memphis This Weekend: 8/20 - 8/22

5 Things to Do in Memphis This Weekend: 8/20 - 8/22

Happy Friday, Memphis! This weekend is all about rock'n'roll, so plan to stay out late and sleep in the next day.

1. Rocky Horror Picture Show, Orpheum Theatre, Friday, 8 p.m., $7

Pack a bag full of props and get ready to do the Time Warp at the Orpheum tonight. Their annual showing of Rocky Horror Picture Show is one of the highlights of the Summer Movie Series. Expect lots of costumes, a ton of props, and people who know the movie by heart. I recommend getting to the box office early - this is one of the more popular movies of the season.

2. Rock for Love, HiTone Cafe, Friday and Saturday, 9 p.m., $10-$15

Rock for Love 4

There are still two more nights of the amazing Rock for Love festival. Its' a weekend-long series of shows that benefits the Church Health Center. It's also a fair snapshot of the Memphis music scene, bringing together rock'n'roll, singer songwriters, rappers and pop bands. Check out the full lineup and show details.

3. Rock'n'Romp, Levitt Shell, Saturday, 2 p.m., free for kids, $5 for adults

The Rock'n'Romp organizers think of everything. At their Levitt Shell show tomorrow, they'll have sprinklers and and a water slide to help keep things cool. They'll also have kid-friendly performances by the Parkington Sisters, Speakerboxx and the Doorknobs. There's free Central Barbecue for all (and beer for the adults).

4. Professional Bull Riders Built Ford Tough Series Memphis Invitational, FedEx Forum, Friday and Saturday, 8 p.m., tickets start at $10

The FedEx Forum is turning into a total rodeo this weekend. The Professional Bull Riders are having an invitational in Memphis on Friday and Saturday nights. Watch brave cowboys (with helmets on) attempt to stay aboard bucking bulls.

5. Sister Myotis' Bible Camp, Theatreworks, Friday - Sept.5, $20

Sister Myotis is back in Memphis, fresh from her super successful off-Broadway run. You can't go wrong with this sanctified show - it's absolutely hilarious. The three-person cast is fantastic, the humor is a little dirty and the show closes with an awe-inspiring rendition of "Gangster's Paradise".

Whatever you do this weekend, have a great time. If none of these events are your thing, check out the calendar for more. If I've left something out, leave it in the comments. Have a great weekend!
