North Mississippi All-Stars and Tank & The Bangas Bring Live Music Back To The Shell

North Mississippi All-Stars and Tank & The Bangas Bring Live Music Back To The Shell

This time, the fundraising concerts have a delicious new twist.

The North Mississippi All-Stars perform at the Levitt Shell on May 6, 2021. Tickets go on sale this Friday, April 9th at levittshell.org.

The Levitt Shell wants to start up their free music programming just as much as we want them to! In order to make this happen, though, they need our support. That’s why they’re tripling the number of Shell Yeah! Shows for 2021 and adding a new local Kelly-English curated picnic dinner option.

If we can raise enough money through these concerts this summer, then the Shell hopes to bring back live music in the fall.

Six Shell Yeah! Shows This Year

The Shell will host six ticketed shows instead of the usual two shows. All shows start at 7:30 p.m. These shows are totally different from the free concerts, so be sure to read up on all the details before you go.

Shell Yeah! Fundraising Concert Dates:

  • May 6 - North Mississippi Allstars
  • May 20 - Tank & the Bangas
  • June 3 & 17 (lineup TBA)
  • July 1 & 15 (lineup TBA)

New! Tasty Compositions

The biggest, best news is that local chefs will prepare a unique, picnic-style dinner for each concert. Here’s the lineup for the chefs:

  • Bala Tounkara- Bala’s Bistro
  • Jimmy Gentry- Paradox Catering
  • Ryan Trimm- Sweetgrass/117 Prime/Sunrise
  • Karen Carrier- Beauty Shop/Hazel’s Delicatessen
  • Philip Ashley Rix- Philip Ashley Chocolates
  • Ben Smith- Tsunami
  • Eli Townsend- Townsend Food Services

  • Jason Severs- Bari

group tickets only + More details

For safety and social-distancing, tickets will be sold for $270 or a group of up to six people. If you want the Tasty Compositions picnic, it’s $400 for up to six people.

I did the math for you: that’s $45 a person, or $66.67 with food. No individual tickets. So, grab a few friends, appoint one the ticket-master, and the fire up the Cash App or Venmo. Also, no refunds since this is a fundraiser. Masks required. More details.

Lineup Announcements

The Levitt Shell will announce the lineup one month at a time.

What Is "Shell Yeah!" ?

When you think Levitt Shell, you think "free concerts".

But these free shows don't grow on trees, and neither do the lights, sounds system, groundskeeping, and staffing for the shows. The Levitt Shell really needs our donations and support in order to keep the music going. That's why they host a couple of paid concerts every year.

If you're a frequent Shell-goer, you can think of it like getting dozens concerts for the price of a few. These concerts are different from usual Shell shows because outside food and drinks aren't allowed, and pets need to stay at home.

Ways To Support The Levitt Shell

While you can always swipe your card for a quick donation during a free show at the Levitt Shell (or drop some cash in the donation bucket), there are several other ways to support this awesome free thing to do in Memphis:
