Description:

Paintings by a group called Sisters of the Brush and a Brother will be on exhibit in the St. George’s Art Gallery from June 2 – 30, 2024.   The Sisters of the Brush are four women painters: Phyllis Boger, Ann Brown Thomason, Barrie Skoda Foster and Jana Jones, and a brother, Patrick McGee each with different styles and techniques. Their love of painting has brought them together to exhibit their art through the bond of the paintbrush.

Boger has been painting on silk for over three decades. The silk paintings for this exhibition are collages made from dyed pieces of silk and found sari cloth. Jones is a nurse and native Memphian who uses watercolors and oil pastels to escape from the daily stresses of life through her art. Foster began painting in watercolor but now likes to paint in all mediums and teaches classes and workshops throught the community.  Thomason is a retired physician who loves to paint waterscapes,  landscapes, sky and portraiture in both oil and acrylic. Much of her inspiration comes from the Forgotten Coast in Florida. This year “brother” Pat McGee, a local musician, joins with the group to exhibit his vibrantly colored oil paintings.

A portion of the proceeds from sales in The Gallery supports the work of Carpenter Art Garden, which brings the arts to the underserved Binghampton community. St. George’s Art Gallery is located within St. George’s Episcopal Church and is accessed through the front doors.  The Gallery is open M – Th from 9:30 a.m. – 4 p.m. and Sundays from 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
