Description:

A. Schwab has always had music for purchase upstairs but now it is joined by this exclusively 'Memphis Music Vinyl' department. Terry Saunders, owner of A. Schwab's, contacted local musician Amy LaVere about the idea of expanding the music department, feeling that such a collection should live at the store on Beale Street.

With the guidance of Shangri La Record's, John Miller, and other Memphis music aficionados like It Came From Memphis writer, Robert Gordon, and Fat Possum label owner, Bruce Watson, Amy curated the new "All Memphis Then and Now” vinyl record collection and it is impressive. No genre or era is left behind.

Partnering with Shangri- La Records for an official Record Store Day Launch Party on June 12th, the celebration at A. Schwab's location will include door prizes, special event pricing, an exclusive ticketed evening concert AND free “45" records made of chocolate by Memphis chocolatiers, Dinstuhls, given to the first 45 people purchasing vinyl.

The special ticketed event begins at 5:00 pm and features a live interview and brief performance by Gospel Soul artist Elizabeth King, hosted by charismatic WYXR DJ Reverend Jaun D. Shipp. Elizabeth King's latest release Living In The Last Days reached #2 on the Billboard Blues Charts.  At 77 years old, the gospel singer and mother of 15 children has a fascinating life story.

MS. King will be followed by another local musician, John Paul Keith, who will be playing songs from his stellar brand new LP release, The Rhythm Of The City. No Depression writer Rachel Cholst's review of his record states,

A record signing by both artists will follow the performances and a visit to the Homemade Craft Soda Bar is included.
