Soldering is at the core of every electronics project. In this demonstration, instructor Gino Barzizza will build an LED Metatron Cube that will correspond to the days of the week. Turn it on and the current will flow. Learn tips and tricks to get you started on your journey into DIY electronics. Join us to learn more, Q&A throughout the session.

No experience or prior knowledge of soldering or electronics is required.
This is a two hour class in four parts:
Best practices and safety training
Breadboarding circuits and reading schematics
Introduction to theory behind electronic circuit: how does it work?
Participants will learn about components, voltage, amperage, resistors, switches and batteries
Learning to Solder: Teaching beginners how to solder and get comfortable with handling a soldering iron by tinning a wire, splicing wires and soldering components into an actual circuit.
Begin soldering circuit for LED lights based on schematic
Connect wires, resistors, switches and battery clips in the correct channel to turn on LED light.
Overview of concepts and skills learned
Place circuit in enclosure and test circuit
How to safely use and understand your light
Everything you need will be provided.
Personalized Electronics Kit Materials include:
Soldering station: Soldering iron and stand
Breadboard and multi-colored wires
Solder, red and black wire
Batteries and battery clip
Sponges and steel wool
Drill and drill press
Wire and jewel cutters
Participants will leave with an understanding of integrated circuits and be able to identify a wide array of components and read schematics. Practice kits equipped with tools to hone your soldering skills will be available for purchase. Everyone is welcome to join on a full tour of Shared Art Making at the end of the workshop.
Due to high demand there will be a waiting list and this workshop will be a recurring offering on the Shared Art Making workshop schedule.
Is there a minimum age requirements to enter the event?
18 years old is the the minimum age requirement.
How do I get there?
Shared Art Making is located in the Crosstown Concourse at 1350 Concourse Ave Suite 177, Memphis, TN 38104. Free parking is available in the Concourse garage. The parking garage is well-lit and the G4S security guards will be happy to escort you to your vehicle. We are on the first floor just past Farm Burger and the red spiral staircase next to the Suntrust Financial Confidence Center.

Important Class Policy
Please be respectful of the short time you and the other participants have to learn and be on time. If you arrive more than a half an hour late, we will not be able to teach you.
