Seniors Love Christmas, Too! Meritan’s Silver Bells Program!November 26, 2019-December 13, 2019
This holiday season, Meritan’s dedicated staff and volunteers are asking people to help them fulfill the Christmas requests of more than 700 seniors by adopting a Silver Bell. Most of these seniors are alone or live with such a limited income that having a new bathrobe or a new pair of pajamas remains an elusive wish. They struggle to afford food and electricity.
Their requests are modest. Some seniors want a new pair of slippers, or new towels, or a bathrobe. Others just want fresh soap, or a pair of socks, or hand cream, or blankets, or bed sheets. Some requests come with a simple explanation. One lady asked for an afghan to ward off the cold when she turns down the heat to save on her utility bills. One man asked for dog food so his dog would have something to eat during the long winter months. Perhaps the most lavish gift: a small microwave oven. This senior just wanted to warm a can of soup.
To fulfill a senior’s wish, one should stop by Meritan’s headquarters at 345 Adams Avenue and adopt a Silver Bell from a tree, fulfill the modest wishes on that bell, and return the gift-wrapped items to Meritan’s office by December 13. Meritan’s team will deliver your gift to a senior in need just in time for Christmas.
