The Levee Brings Homemade Ice Cream To Collierville
The Levee Brings Homemade Ice Cream To Collierville
I stopped by The Levee Creamery earlier this afternoon after seeing several delicious-looking Instagram posts this week. Once there, I found a cute spot with a modern feel that serves homemade ice cream and soft serve, coffee, cookie dough, and a few baked goods.
The Levee Creamery is in a corner bay of a shopping center at Houston Levee and Wolf River; they've been open since the spring of 2017. It feels like a coffee shop inside with plenty of natural light, some metal chairs at small tables and bars, and a pair of leather cushion-y ones.
There were only a couple of people inside when I stopped by around 4 p.m., plus two friendly baristas who told me what was up.
They offer a rotating selection of ice creams made "in the back" onsite, with your basic flavors including a few fun names like "Mud Island" (chocolate) and "Grit-n-Grind Cafe" (coffee).
They have toppings like sprinkles, chocolate chips, and cereals, too. You can get Coke floats, oatmeal, affogato (espresso and ice cream), and a few other treats. I went with pistachio and Grit-n-Grind Cafe in a homemade waffle cone.
The cream is good, and the cone was tasty, though I started to doubt its structural integrity after a few bites; it's definitely thinner than your usual crunchy cone, which could be a good or a bad thing depending on preference. I was just fine with it. (See above.)
There's a full espresso and coffee bar serving French Truck Coffee, plus a couple of soft serve ice cream flavors, cookie dough, and a limited selection of baked goods. A cooler off to the side was empty save for a two or three ice cream pops; I expect that between the holiday weekend and relatively recent opening they might be building up that inventory.
I'd had my heart set on ice cream so I didn't try the cookie dough, which they described as a totally-safe-to-eat raw dough that you can devour right away... or take home and bake into real cookies...but who would do that?
The "Electric Fence Shake" which comes with two shots of espresso plus ice cream sounded incredibly intriguing, but since my blood was already at least 60 percent iced tea today, I decided to decline more caffeine. I'll probably have to make the trek back out to the 'burbs again soon to try some more of their offerings.
Follow them on Instagram or Facebook for more pics of mouth-watering treats.
