About Memphis In May

Lots of people use "Memphis In May" as shorthand to refer to one part of the festival or the other, but really, Memphis In May is the whole month that contains four different events this year. Everything's at Tom Lee Park in downtown Memphis.

To break it down:

Beale Street Music Festival, May 3-5
Three days of live music including headliners like Cardi B, Dave Matthews Band, and The Killers. See the full lineup here, and get three day passes ($135) here. Tickets go up to $180 on April 19th at midnight.

World Championship Barbecue Cooking Contest, May 15 - 18  
Teams from around the world compete for the money, fame, and glory as they see who can cook the very best barbecue in the universe. The competition is fierce. If you're not on a team, you can still enjoy entertainment and food for sale. Read more here, and get four-day passes ($40/$10 per day) here.

Great American River Run, May 25
Run a half-marathon or 5K along the banks of the Mississippi River and through downtown Memphis on Memorial Day Weekend, then hang out at the post-race party for music, food, and adult beverages. Right now, the half marathon entry fee is $70 and the 5K entry fee is $35. Prices go up in mid-May. Sign up for the races here.

Celebrate Memphis, May 25
Happy 200th Birthday, Memphis! This is the big party finale at the end of a month of big parties, and it's all about the 901's bicentennial. (This event was formerly called 901 Fest.) There will be live music, food trucks, an air show, tons of family-friendly activities, and a huge fireworks show at the end of the night. Memphis In May is also going to try to host the World's Largest Picnic, and will have the Guinness Book of World Records on hand to verify this accomplishment. Seriously.
