2019 Cooper Young Garden Walk This Weekend
2019 Cooper Young Garden Walk This Weekend
Updated May 2019
The Cooper Young Garden Walk has come a long way in its three years. It started as one day featuring 25 neighborhood gardens. For 2019, you can take two days to tour about 90 gardens - and you can do it on foot or by bike! It's going to be better than ever, and I encourage you to check it out.
Meet some gardeners, get inspiration for your own space, enjoy this laid-back event. I have some info here, but be sure to check out the
Reasons I am excited about this Memphis event:
a) It's not food-centric. I, of course, love food-centric events but it's nice to see something different.
b) Anyone can participate. No "tent" access required.
c) It's much more than just plants or gardens. There's also a chance to see the neighborhood on bikes, enjoy food and drink specials at restaurants, hear from garden experts, and get inspiration for your own garden.
Details
The Cooper Young Garden Walk is Saturday, May 18 and Sunday, May 19 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days. You can tour the gardens at your own pace throughout the day, or join the guided Bike Tour.
Garden styles run the gamut from organic vegetable gardens and free range chickens to cottage, formal, whimsical, and serene. This year, there are 30 "secret" gardens.
You can visit the gardens in any order, and don't get hung up on trying to see them all. Pick a direction and go exploring!
If you wanted, you could make a day out of it: get some breakfast in the neighborhood, visit the Cooper Young Farmer's Market and the Tsunami market (in their parking lot), then get started on the tour down one side of Cooper. Then, get some lunch and head down the other side of Cooper.
Ed. Note: I'd like to give a special thanks to Kim Halyak for all of her hard work growing this wonderful event!
