Black Lodge: The Last Video Rental Store

Reasons to Love Memphis #4 - Black Lodge Video

Black Lodge Video is one of the places that makes Memphis Memphis. It’s one of the few in-person video rental stores left in the entire country. With 30,000 DVDs and Blu-Rays available to rent in their cinema library, they can help you find that movie or show you can’t find anywhere else. It’s a local institution, and they need our help.

Be sure to check out their Telethon, streaming directly on their website, on March 19th and 20th.

Usually, Black Lodge is more than just a place to get expert recommendations on “what movie you should watch this weekend”, they hold regular movie screenings, concerts, legendary parties, and other events. The pandemic has put a stop to all that, and the owners are just trying to keep up until things get “back to normal”

So sign up to back their IndieGoGo—get t-shirts, stickers, posters, and more—and then stop by for a masked-up social-distanced old school movie renting experience. You can also attend the monthly Time Warp Drive In movie nights at the Summer Drive-In one of my favorite things to do in Memphis. See the 2021 schedule here.

Black Lodge Video Is Open

The new Black Lodge location is easy to find. It’s on Cleveland just south of the Crosstown Concourse building. It has giant red letters and easy parking right in front. You cannot miss it.

For Posterity

The original Black Lodge Video location was at 831 S Cooper Street in a cozy converted home. Here's a photo of the old iconic sign out front, for posterity. On the last night that this location was open, there was a huge concert and yard party and the Midtown Market across the street (now a City Market) sold out of every single beer except for one lone Woodchuck Cider.
