The Memphis Comic Expo Returns for Biggest Event Yet

The Mid-South's largest Creaton Con, the Memphis Comic Expo, returns September 23-24, 2023. This family-friendly event is free for kids 12 and under.

This year promises to be the biggest event yet with over 120 comic artists, writers, artisans, voice actors, and big names like Kevin Eastman, co-creator of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

Enter to win free tickets on both our Facebook and Instagram pages! Giveaways end 9/18.

I feel confident saying that just about everyone loves the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Who could dislike them? Even if you didn't watch the show, you've likely karate-fought your way through the arcade game at least once. While the fun and pizza-loving Michelangelo may be the most likely favorite of many -- I've personally always identified with Leonardo the most.

That's all to say, if you have any appreciation for TMNT, head to the Memphis Comic Expo on Sept. 23-24 at the Agricenter to meet and hear from Kevin Eastman, comic artist and writer best known as the co-creator of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Please make note Eastman will be a popular draw so they have diligently outlined his schedule here and everything you need to know.

Additional big names in the comicverse to see is Garth Ennis whose credits include The Boys, Preacher, Hitman, and more. Jim Cheung, who has exclusively worked for Marvel Comics for 15 years, created Infinity which spawned the Avengers: Infinity War movie. His past credits include Justice League, Wonder Woman, Spider-Man: The Clone Conspiracy, and more.

The list of successful comic creators literally goes on and on and on. See if your favorite comic is represented by checking out the full list.

There's also a number of voice actors in attendance from Scott Innes, who most notably is the voice of Scooby-Doo, and Renae Jacobs, the voice of TMNT's April O'Neil. Personally, I'd love to see Marty Grabstein, the voice of Courage the Cowardly Dog -- a show that both traumatized and delighted me. Full list of voice actors here.

In addition to special appearances, Memphis Comic Expo will have cosplay guests, a cosplay contest, an artist alley, panels, free-play video games from U-Play Mobile Gaming & Game Over Arcade Bar, a food court, and more.

Build your perfect Memphis meal:

I love to eat so if I were to have only one meal left.. I’m going all out. I’d start with an app of Gumbo Fries from Blue City Cafe or Bayou Fries from Chef Tam, wings from Good Fortune or Central’s (honey gold and Jamaican Jerk), potato salad from Fat Larry’s, side of bbq spaghetti from Bar-B-Q Shop, and fried okra from Soul Fish. All paired with a Beale Street Brewing Space Age Sippin’.

Your most memorable Memphis moment:

College GameDay on Beale Street. That was an electric and perfect morning. I was still working in news then and was able to take it in up close and on the stage at some points. The fun and joy of everyone down there that morning is unbeatable.
