Win Tickets to the North Mississippi Allstar's Thanksgiving Show

The North Mississippi Allstars Thanksgiving Reunion is happening again this year on November 29 at 7 p.m. at Minglewood Hall. I have two pairs of tickets to give away to this annual Black Friday show.

This year's NMA Thanksgiving show has a few extras. First, the band is going to record the night for a concert video. They plan to interview audience members and friends, and are inviting everyone to participate. NMA is also asking for show-goers to bring canned goods or non-perishable food items to donate to the Mid-South Food Bank at the show.

The show is all ages, and Minglewood Hall is ADA accessible. Tickets are $20 in advance or $22 on the day of the show, but you can get a pair for free. All you have to do is tell me about your favorite North Mississippi Allstars shows or experience (put it in the comments) and I'll pick a winner from your stories.

The Best all stars show was this one in a field behind a strip club on the way to tunica. It was an all day little festival type show that brought everyone out to party. Al Kapone came out and played whoop that trick and the whole crowd went nuts!!

We've seen N Mississppi open for Panic, many times at The Deli, at The Hangout, Bonoroo, and tons of other festivals. My all time favorite show/experience is the show at The Shell this past summer. We took our 3y/o little girl and she danced her little tail off. She now constantly says North Mississippi is her favorite band, and she swears that she was on stage with the band. She also insists that Luther's guitar lights up blue :). Though our little music lover wouldn't be attending Friday's show, her mommy and daddy would live the tickets!

Love the North Mississippi Allstars!!  One of my favorite of many times seeing them was at the Levitt Shell back in 2001 or 2002.  Great energy and all around good time. The Shell was packed with a rowdy hometown audience.  I would love to win tickets to this show, as early Christmas shopping has depleted my bank account :)

My wife and I saw NMA this year at Levitt Shell, and it was great! We got there very early to get a spot, only to see about 10000 other Memphians that had the same idea! It was truly one of the best performances I have seen. By the end of the show, no one could be seen sitting!

Only time I've seen NMA was at Levitt Shell this summer, and it was awesome! I'd love to see them again before Law School exams start!

Loved them at the shell and loved when they played with the Memphis Symphony for their Opus One series! It's awesome to have seen them working within our community. Plus, they are of course a great band to boogie to!

I believe seeing the original trio playing acoustic at the old PopTunes record store on Union is my highlight for two reasons. One, it was so intimate. The band set up and played a few songs, answered questions, and gave autographs to the maybe 30-40 people in attendance. And two, I was able to take my ailing father to show him that there was still great music being made, even if it wasn't on the radio.

This one is easy. In 2005, the national conference on media reform was held at the Cook Convention Center and the North Mississippi All-Stars were the weekend evening's entertainment. A good show, which included Jimbo Mathis. But the best element was when one of the members of the Federal Communications Commission jumped on stage to play harmonica. I saw Helen Thomas bobbing her head in the crowd. Good times. here's a picture..[email protected]/358960266/in/photolist-xHLo7-xHLrp-xHLuF-xHLxp

The North Mississippi Allstars are my favorite band, and I've seen them dozens of times. Nothing quite matches the first time, though. My boyfriend (now husband) told me about a great Memphis band, his hometown, when we both lived in Kentucky. The NMAS show in Lexington, KY in 2003 was our first of hundreds of shows we've shared as a couple, being inveterate concert-goers. At that first show, I remember being absolutely floored by the musicianship of all the band members. This was back when Dwayne Burnside played some shows with them. Never before in my life had I danced like I did that night! The chanting chorus to "shake 'em on down" was a command that my booty could not ignore. In the ten years since I have made it my business to see them play every chance I get! Another once-in-a-lifetime experience was the Hill Country Revue show at Bonnaroo 2004 when the NMAS were joined by Jim Dickinson, R.L. Burnside, the Rising Star Fife & Drum Band, and many, many more! The energy of that performance was something I will never forget: the families, the mastery of craft, their friends. I danced myself to near dehydration under the Tennessee summer sun that day! The music of the NMAS has been the soundtrack of my life since meeting my husband. Whether I win the tickets or not, it is really fun to recall and share those wonderful times!

Ok, this was way too hard to pick the "best" story. So I picked a few favorites and drew out of a hat (seriously, an actual hat!). Congrats to Carrie M. and ben! You each get a pair of tickets. I'll be emailing you, so please respond to that at your earliest convenience.
