Reasons to Love Memphis #25 - Carnival Food
Here's a good reason to love Memphis - there's a restaurant called Carnival Food that serves (you guessed it) carnival food year-round, seven days a week.
Carnival Food has been open for about a month and is run by a couple that also has a food truck that they take to flea markets, fairs and carnivals.
You place your order at the counter, and they bring it out to your table. The menu is fairly extensive - people at my table ordered brats, Polish sausage, a barbecue sandwich, a burger, funnel cakes, and a snow cone.
Speaking of the people at my table, a few I Love Memphis blog readers came out to keep me company:
I had a cheeseburger and fries and fresh squeezed lemonade. The burger was thick and came with a tomato slice, some lettuce and a pickle on the side. Carnival Food has both regular fries and curly spicy fries.
The general consensus on the food was that it was tasty, but not anything super special. It was carnival food, just like you'd get at the fair.
Carnival Food is located in a former Mexican restaurant in a strip mall on Covington Pike. Seating is limited - there are only four tall folding tables and a few stools at each one. There are games on the tables (dominoes, Memory, and Monopoly).
Overall, Carnival Food is a great place to fulfill your off-season funnel cake cravings or grab an inexpensive lunch if you're in the area.
A few things to know before you go: Carnival Food delivers, but I'm not sure what their delivery area is. There's a $5 minimum for credit card purchases, and they're open 10 a.m. - 10 p.m. every day.
