From hearing loss and projected to never being able to speak to appearing on American Idol and winner of Clubhouse Got Talent, Ariel Reign is soaring to new heights through her musical career. Scroll on to read more about her story.
How would you describe your style of music?
I’m going to make you FEEL it. I’m an avid genre-mixer of r & b, soul, pop, gospel, and singer-songwriter. Most often people describe me as a happy Adele with Erykah Badu vibes! I like to vibe, I like to be positive and I love to fuse. I’ve learned how to put all this emotion to good use!
What about Memphis inspires you creatively?
When I put my feet on the ground, it felt like home. The music here, the energy here — the stories I’ve heard, the people I’ve met. I’ve even learned of my family history that stems from here, no wonder it feels like home.
What do you love about the current Memphis music scene?
How the venues are becoming more open to indie music. I can do shows now where they want to hear originals instead of just covers. People will seek it out, and that’s exciting!
Which place gives you that Memphis vibe?
Crosstown Concourse, being in a space that supports all art forms by young and old gives me Memphis vibes. Also I have a lot of meetings there with Music Export Memphis to prepare for touring this fall. When I first moved here, it was one of the first spaces that inspired me.

Do you have a story that changed you as an artist, a moment in time that moved the needle for you?
Being an artist with hearing-loss has always moved the needle for me. It keeps me from taking things for granted. The doctors told my parents when I was between 4-5, that I'd never be able to speak, and that I ‘d be completely deaf before 10.
They were wrong. I’m a true miracle; having grown up on the praise and worship team, in theatre and even starting my professional singing career in high school. Having hearing-aids has never stopped me from pursuing destiny. When you pursue destiny, it pursues you — isn’t that beautiful?
I’ve done American Idol. I won Clubhouse Got Talent. I’ve headlined at the House of Blues and now I’m a Memphis Music ambassador. It's been a beautiful career; I’m just getting started.
What is the most unexpected music interest you have?
I love prophetic worship instrumentals. I’m big on meditation and it’s the best way to take the day off of you. One of my favorites is called Yeshua Prophetic worship Instrumental. I sing songs to God and he hears me. It’s a beautiful experience.
