Ed. Note: I have some announcements! I’m excited to announce a new article series for I Love Memphis: SHOP LOCAL. Y’all loved the Shop Local Online guide we put together for the holidays, so every other Wednesday, we’ll share a profile of a local business or shop—fashion, sports, gifts, art, beauty, Memphis gear, and more. This week we are a day behind due to MLK Day and the Presidential inauguration.

Our second announcement is that local blogger, photographer, and style expert Kim Thomas is officially on I Love Memphis Blog Contributor. What better writer to guide us through our Shop Local project than Kim? I know you’re going to love her perspective on shopping local, her pro tips, and lovely photos.

Let us know what you think in the comments!

MEMPHIS WEDDING INVITATIONS, PAPER GOODS, GIFTS, BOOKS, CHILDREN’S GIFTS

Established in 2006, the gift shop specializes in finding unique, creative and personal gifts that you can’t wait to give and receive. In addition to offering stylish paper goods and gifts, they specialize in custom wedding + event invitations for those looking to creative ways to celebrate the special moments in their life.

Owner Lindsey Cross Lee has a background in design (she studied at Parson School of Design in NY) and after designing a line of stationary that was sold in about 500 stores across the country, she decided to open the original location in Chickasaw Oaks (by La Baguette) and we’ve got all the deets about what prompted her to open up the newest one in the East Memphis area.

KIM’S SHOPPING PRO-TIPS

My go-to gift recommendations are books, candles, or cute accessories, and you can find a plethora of options at Mrs. Post (if it’s “Instagrammable, they’re sure to love it!)

Word to the wise: their inventory turns over fairly quickly, so if you see something you love, grab it before it’s gone.

Q&A with Mrs. Post Stationery owner Lindsey Cross Lee

Kim: Why did you choose East Memphis for the newest location?

Lindsey: For years [at Chickasaw Oaks] we’ve heard “I love this shop but rarely get to this part of town.” I had been looking for a new location more centrally located in East Memphis for almost a year before I decided on Williamsburg Village on Mendenhall.

The buildings were desperately in need of renovation, but I was confident it was going to be an amazing transformation. I actually signed the lease for it in November 2019, months before we had first heard of covid. During the shutdown this spring, we delivered packages all over the city (we are so grateful that people were shopping with us when we were closed).

We didn’t know the extent until then, but so many of our clients lived really close to the new location. During such an unsettled time, it really confirmed we were opening in the right space!

Kim: What do you feel sets Mrs. Post Stationery apart from other lifestyle boutiques?

Lindsey: We are always striving for our version of the perfect trifecta: a great selection of really unique and special items, an exceptional, friendly staff and a welcoming Southern atmosphere. We source many lines from London, Paris, Spain, Australia and all across the United States, so we have pieces that aren’t seen in other boutiques in Memphis. I may be partial, but I really think our staff is the kindest, most helpful bunch of people I’ve ever had the pleasure of knowing. When you come in, we want you to feel like you can take your time exploring and always leave with a purchase you’ll love!

Kim: What’s your favorite part about owning a boutique?

Lindsey: I love coming to work everyday! I get to see our wonderful customers and fantastic staff and it just makes everyday so fun to come to work! My favorite part though is actually sourcing new lines. Whether I’m on a vacation, a buying trip or scrolling through Instagram, I’m forever on the hunt for new lines that would enhance our product mix!

Kim: How can people shop with you/keep up with what’s happening with the store?

We update our Instagram and Facebook accounts daily with new posts and stories! We love to share new products, custom projects and fun behind-the-scenes moments. We’ve recently had some great social media giveaways and have more planned! And…we have some really exciting news we’ll be sharing in early March on our social media platforms too!
