Seven Ways To Celebrate Memphis Music Month 2020
Seven Ways To Celebrate Memphis Music Month 2020
October is Memphis Music Month! MMM was started in 2011 by local music activist Pat Mitchell Worley. This year, we're bringing it back.
Here are seven ways to participate in 2020's monthlong celebration of Memphis music, including have virtual concerts, socially-distanced shows, Q&As with artists, special events, and playlists.
If you want a day-by-day calendar listing of Memphis Music Month events for all of October, just scroll down to the Calendar below.
Seven Ways To Participate In Memphis Music Month 2020
1. Memphis Music Q&As
Every Tuesday and Thursday starting October 1, I Love Memphis and Memphis Music Hub will publish a new interview with a local Memphis musician or artist. This is your chance to dig into the current music scene and get links to new tunes. Find them all here.
Dates: every Tuesday and Thursday
2. Downtown Dinner + Music Series
This is a socially-distanced in-person event! (I know?!) It's happening every Thursday in October from 5 p.m. - 7 p.m. at multiple locations downtown. Pick up some dinner at a downtown Memphis restaurant, then head to one of several locations for distanced outdoor unplugged live music. The lineup and locations are listed on the Facebook event.
Dates: every Thursday
3. Levitt Shell Orion Virtual Concert Series with Memphis Music Trivia
The Levitt Shell continues their streaming concerts on Facebook Live every Saturday night, and for October you can tune in to win prizes when you answer Memphis music trivia questions. Check out the line up.
Dates: every Saturday
4. Stax Music Academy's Throwback Thursday
Follow the Stax Music Academy's Facebook page for a special throwback-flavored post each Thursday.
Dates: every Thursday
5. Backbeat Tours Mojo Tour
What do you get when you combine a snazzy vintage bus, Memphis musicians, and a history tour? You get Backbeat's Memphis Mojo Tour, which hits all the high points of Memphis music and historical landmarks on a bus ride led by a real Beale Street musician.
For Memphis Music Month, the Memphis Mojo Tours on Fridays and Saturdays include a special interactive musical performance at Galloway United Methodist Church near the Johnny Cash statue. See tour schedule and register.
Dates: daily at 1:30 p.m.; special tours on Fridays and Saturdays
