New Wing Order's Vegan Avocado Tacos

New Wing Order has captured the love and attention of wing lovers across Memphis, but don't stop with the chicken. I've raved about these vegan tacos multiple times, and I'll do so again now: you have to try these.

They're vegan-friendly, made with breaded and fried avocado topped with crunchy cabbage, pico, and sweet pineapple, drizzled with bang bang sauce and wrapped up like a li'l baby in a flour tortilla. New Wing Order is a food truck, so you'll be able to order in a mask, then grab your food to-go. Find their location via their website or Instagram.

Cousins Maine Lobster Tacos

Seafood tacos are nothing new, but Cousins Maine Lobster food truck does them their way. Soft flour tortillas are filled with chunks of Maine lobster and topped with pico de gallo, cabbage, and a creamy cilantro lime sauce.

While Cousins is a national chain of trucks, the Memphis one is a locally black-owned and operated truck. Cousins Maine Lobster is a food truck, so you'll be able to order in a mask, then grab your food to-go. Find them via their schedule on the website.

Elwood's Shack Steelhead Trout

These are a Memphis must-eat, and the number one most popular item on the Elwood's Shack menu, which is full of amazing things to eat. It's not your usual taco and certainly not the usual fish taco flavor profile.

Picture a very crispy flour tortilla is filled with smoked (not fried) trout, melted provolone and mozzarella, fresh avocado, mixed greens, and horseradish. Elwood's Shack is open, call ahead for details about hours/takeout/etc.

taconganas tacos con consume

If you haven't tried these by now, stop what you're doing and go find the nearest Taconganas (or any spot that serves tacos with the consume / birria tacos / tacos de birria) and order them and eat them. They live up to the hype—they're a staple of Mexican cuisine and the rest of us have been sleeping on them.

There are multiple Taconganas trucks and taco stands in the Mid-South, so just find the nearest one. i'd highly recommend calling in an order ahead of time to cut down on wait time and be sure you order them "taconganas style" (cooked on the griddle with cheese and oil) and a side of the beef consume. Evelyn & Olive Jamaican-Southern fusion food hits the spot. I've enjoyed this particular taco dish for years, there's just something about the combination of flavors that's satisfying without being too heavy. It's vegan and vegetarian friendly, of course: tofu and black beans in a crispy taco shell, topped with tart kiwi slaw (just trust me and try it) and salsa verde, served with a side of rice and peas and a summer veggie salad. Evelyn & Olive is open for dine-in, delivery, and curbside.
