8 Fun Places To Eat And Drink In Memphis

8 Fun Places To Eat And Drink In Memphis

Whether you're looking for a snack, a treat, a cocktail, or a full meal, here are eight restaurants around Memphis to try.

Surf 'n' turf at 117 Prime. Photos don't really do it justice.

1. 117 Prime 117 Union Avenue 117 Prime is a traditional American steakhouse in that you get expertly-cooked Prime steaks served a la carte with shareable sides and sauces - and for most of us, dinner will be special occasions only - but it's in a classy modern-feeling downtown atmosphere. Everything I've tried is delicious, the service impeccable, and the Delmonico Ribeye is something I'll probably talk about for years.

2. 17 Berkshire Overton Square, midtown This adorable bakery/coffee shop looks like it spun off directly from a lifestyle blogger's pastel Instagram profile. Indulge in the macaron craze, try a pastry, get an iced coffee, and hang out for a bit in Overton Square (go in through the Courtyard by the big wind chimes).

3. Curry 'n' Jerk 126 Monroe Ave. (Monroe at 2nd St. downtown) This Caribbean restaurant downtown specializes in favorites like oxtails, curry and jerk chicken, arroz con pollo, seafood, and more. They've got a full bar with happy hour specials and plan to have live music and karaoke on weekends.

4. Electrolyfe Juice Bar 4466 Elvis Presley Blvd. (Whitehaven) Have your pressed juice and clean-eating needs met at this Memphis healthy food spot in Whitehaven. Try out juices, smoothies, salads, sandwiches, and wraps, plus shots like wheatgrass. The turkey melt looks particularly delicious.

5. Grecian Gourmet 412 S. Main Street Grecian Gourmet in South Main downtown serves up Greek favorites like pastito, spanakoptia, and moussaka, plus some very tempting Greek "nachos". It's a casual, cafe-style spot open for lunch and dinner, and they do serve beer and wine, including sangria.

6. Green Goddess  3078 Summer Avenue They started out as a vegan popcorn shop with a mission to give back to the community. The location on Summer offers pastries, herbal teas, and more. Everything is vegan and plant-based, and you can also shop for popcorn online.

7. Milk Dessert Bar 1789 Kirby Parkway, Ste 10 Over-the-top milkshakes like the Cookie Monster are the order of the day at Milk Dessert Bar, but there's also ice cream. Read more about the bakery here.

8. Slice of Soul Pizza 1299 Madison Ave. Part pizza joint, part casual bar venue, Slice of Soul has added food and fun to the Medical District. Their rectangular flatbread-style pizzas have Memphis-themed names like the Al B. Green and Memphis Meat Mafia, plus they offer daily wing specials. Slice of Soul offers weekly events like open mic, karaoke, trivia, music - see the schedule.

These are numbered for easy reading, and not in any particular order of priority other than alphabetical. Leave me a comment with your favorite Memphis restaurants and I'll go check them out!

Best Friend Grill has the best Saturday/Sunday brunch hands down. It's tucked away off Germantown Pkwy and space is limited but the wait is worth it. Check out their Chicken/Waffles with endless mimosas.
