Take a Spa Day at Feathers Spa at The Peabody

Take a Spa Day at Feathers Spa at The Peabody

It’s Monday afternoon, and that email inbox shows no signs of slowing down. You think to yourself, "I’ve been hunched over this computer for 40 days and 40 nights. I've been smiling blankly at endless Zoom calls. I need a break."

Your mind drifts to someplace warm, the sun on your skin, the sound of waves crashing...and the tension drains from your neck.

Maybe it’s a bad time for full-length tropical vacation, but all hope is not lost—you can get away for a few hours right here in Memphis. If you feel like I’m about to recommend a staycation, you’re half right. Feathers Spa at The Peabody is like a mini-vacation, but you don’t have to be a hotel guest to enjoy it.

In fact, my pals Alex and Leah recently went to Feathers Spa at The Peabody for an afternoon of facials, massages, and saunas. The spa was renovated in 2019 and earned the number six spot on the "Top 100 Spas" list. We had to go see in person if it lived up to all the hype.

Before I get into their in-depth research into this downtown Memphis spa, here's some basic info on Feathers:

Where is the Spa?

Feathers is in the lower level of the Peabody. You can enter on Second Street through the entrance across from Automatic Slim's or through the lobby. Or you can do what I do, which is to walk in and ask the first Peabody staff member I see "Hi, where am I supposed to go for ___?" and they're fantastically helpful 100 percent of the time. It's my favorite thing about The Peabody. But I digress.

Who Can Go to Feathers Spa and the salon?

Anyone can make an appointment for Feathers—you do not have to be a hotel guest! This is why I think Feathers is a hidden gem and underrated, especially when people living or working downtown can get a 25 percent discount on spa services Sunday - Thursday.

Wait, There’s a Discount for Downtown Residents and Workers?

Yes, you can read more about the Feathered Friends Club here.

What Can You Get At Feathers?

Feathers has a ton of services, including multiple kinds of massages and the new Ashiatsu Barefoot Massage, a variety of facials including a Gentleman’s Facial, a dry sauna, a steam room, and Tennessee’s only Vichy Shower Bed. You can get couples massages, too.

Feathers also offers manicures, pedicures, waxing, and hair and makeup styling in the downtown Memphis salon. They also have a shop with upscale beauty products and skin treatments.

The Feathers Experience

My friends Alex and Leah had a spa afternoon at Feathers, trying out different treatments. Alex had the Vitamin C Collagen facial and Leah adventurously chose the Ashiatsu Barefoot Massage.

Here’s what Alex had to say about the facial, which was done by Davia.

“I’d never had a facial before, so I was unsure of what to expect. Davia addressed my concerns and adjusted her treatment for what she thought would suit me and my skin the best. You get changed into robes and hang out in the Relaxation Room for a few minutes, then you are led into a cozy and dark room with gentle music and soothing rain sounds.”

“As for the treatment itself, she began with a dermabrasion machine to exfoliate and remove all of my dead skin, then she did extractions and followed up with creams and moisturizers. She noticed my skin was especially dry, so she applied a hydrating mask as well. Davia also gave a shoulder and neck massage, which made it extra relaxing. Between the weighted blanket, heated bed, and the soothing music and sounds may have resulted in an accidental ten-minute power nap.”

“I followed up by meeting Leah in the steam room and sauna, both of which I loved. We had cucumber water and fruit for a snack during the afternoon, then followed up with a lunch at Capriccio Grill inside the Peabody. Afterwards and even into the next week, my face felt amazing and hydrated.” (Ed. Note: can attest - we all noticed that Alex was literally glowing for days afterwards!)

Ashiatsu Barefoot Massage At Feathers Spa In Memphis

Here’s what Leah had to say about the Ashiatsu Barefoot Massage.

The massage was awesome. If you like deep tissue massage, you will love Ashiatsu. It’s all the right pressures, everywhere you need it especially if you hold tension in your shoulders like I do. My masseuse, Haze, let me choose which oils and scents I preferred for aromatherapy, so I went with jasmine and clove for the oils and frankincense for the aromatherapy. If you’re having sinus or allergy issues, you could go with the eucalyptus and peppermint.”

“There are also heated beds! The experience was incredibly relaxing, and it didn’t really feel like it was 'feet'. Haze was so skillful, using her hands and controlled body weight to really get in there and work through the muscles. I loved using the steam room and sauna afterwards, which gave us the full spa day experience."

Another spa service that sounds intriguing is the Vichy Shower Bed, the only one in Tennessee. This is where you get body treatments, like a Cellu-Smooth Green Coffee scrub, steam massage, and aroma and light therapy. Essentially, you can get a body wrap experience without having to stop in the middle to get up and take a shower. Wild!
