10 Ways To Give Back To Memphis This Month - March 2021

What better way to show your love for Memphis than to give your time and talents to help your fellow Memphians? Volunteer Odyssey has put together this list of local groups that need your help this month.

Get Outside and Give Back:

1. Direct Seeding and Organizing at St. Paul Garden with Memphis Tilth, March 1st from 9:00am to 12:00pm

Volunteers will be doing direct seeding and organizing gardens and beds at our St. Paul Garden to help support the Memphis Tilth mission of cultivating collective action for an economically sustainable, socially equitable, and environmentally sound local food system. Volunteers must attend the virtual 30-minute orientation prior to the event. Sign up for your orientation and your spot at the garden here.

2. Monthly Weed Wrangle with Memphis Botanic Garden, March 5th from 9:00am to 12:00pm

Join the Memphis Botanic Garden to help remove invasive and exotic plants in the wildflower woodland! This area of the garden boasts over 50 different species of native trees and dozens of other species of native shrubs, vines, and perennials. The presence of exotic and invasive plants limits the growth potential of native plants, who compete for the same resources. The goal is to begin removing invasive plants to revert the area back to a native woodland. Sign up for your spot here!

3. Andrew Chiego Day of Service at the Levitt Shell, March 20th from 10:00am to 2:00pm

In memory of the Shell's dear friend, Andrew Chiego, join us for the Andrew Chiego Day of Service as we focus on spring spruce up projects around the Shell! Projects such as painting, planting, and other outdoor opportunities will be featured. All volunteers will need to wear a mask and bring a water bottle. Stay up to date on when registration opens on the Levitt Shell page here.

Support Neighbors Experiencing Hunger:

4. Warehouse Volunteer with the Mid-South Food Bank, March 5th from 10:00am to 12:00pm and 1:00pm to 3:00pm

Join the Mid-South Food Bank (and the Volunteer Odyssey staff if you choose the morning shift!) as they combat hunger in the Mid-South. With opportunities to pack food boxes on an assembly line, you are able to space out in their large warehouse to safely serve your community. Sign up here!

5. Neighborhood Lunch Program with Memphis Rox, weekdays from 10:00am to 2:00pm

This opportunity fills up quick so save your spot to give back with Memphis Rox. This is a great chance to catch up on work as the opportunity allows you to sit in the cafe while serving bagged lunch to those who walk or drive up. Register here!

6. Mobile Food Pantry with Catholic Charities of West TN, weekdays from 8:30am to 11:30am

Catholic Charities needs volunteers now as much as ever. Working outside and spaced out, volunteers help direct traffic and distribute this food to our neighbors in need. Sign up for your shift here.

Support COVID-19 Testing and Vaccination:

7. Community COVID-19 Testing with Cherokee Health Systems, weekly opportunities from 1:00pm to 3:00pm

You can support Cherokee Health Systems as they offer COVID testing to anyone who needs it. They have two locations, but need extra support at their Frayser office. See details and register here!

8. Vaccination Volunteers with the City of Germantown, Monday through Saturday with 3.5 hour shifts from 8:30am to 6:00pm

The city of Germantown has opened a vaccination site for anyone in the Memphis area. This effort will be largely volunteer-run and a vast number are needed daily. For information on how to get involved, click here.

10. Care Kits for the St. Vincent de Paul Food Mission, open opportunity

11. Personal Hygiene Kits for Community Alliance For The Homeless, open opportunity
