Memphis Food News: Fall 2019 Update

There's been a flurry of big restaurant and pub updates lately, including some changes and updates for local favorites like Fox Ridge Pizza, Sweet Grass, Beauty Shop, Restaurant Iris, and Memphis Made Brewing.

Here's a quick roundup of what's going on with those and more. Most of these updates and announcements don't have timelines or opening dates. If there is an open date, I've included it.

- Memphis Made Brewing will open a second taproom at 435 Madison Avenue in The Edge District, overlooking The Ravine (a $5 million park planned for the area between Union and Madison). When? It's anyone's guess.

- Karen Carrier will open a patio restaurant behind The Beauty Shop in Cooper Young called "Back Dó at Mi Yard" with a focus on rotisserie grilled meat platters. She plans to screen movies in the jungle-inspired space. Read more from Michael Donahue at the Flyer.

- The former Dirty Crow Inn is now Momma's Roadhouse, under new ownership from Aldo Dean (Aldo's, Slider Inn, Bardog). They're no longer focusing on wings and doing burgers and sandwiches instead, and are changing the decor to be "trucker" themed in some way, according to Michael at the Flyer.

- The fate of the Dirty Crow Inn as a concept is unknown. There are rumors and #fakenews FB posts about its relocation, but it appears to be incorrect.

- Fox Ridge Pizza has moved to the former Porcellino's location in Brookhaven Circle in East Memphis. They're open for business. They serve their classic pizzas, home cooking plate lunches, a dog-friendly patio (leashes, please) and a happy hour from 2 p.m. - 6 p.m.

- Atomic Tiki is going to become a New Orleans-style po-boy restaurant, adding to a growing list of po-boy and Cajun restaurants in the Midtown and Crosstown areas, including Mardi Gras Memphis, the Second Line, Elwood's Shells, Saucy Chicken, and Bayou.

- Moondance Grill opened in Germantown's Thornwood development back in September. It's upscale, open for lunch and dinner, and has a dress code. The menu seems like classic American grill favorites; it's owned by the same folks as BB King's, Itta Bena, and Lafayette's.

- Memphis-Famous chefs Andrew Ticer and Michael Hudman will open Bishop, a French restaurant in the Central Station hotel in downtown Memphis.

- Mike Miller's sports bar, Let It Fly, opens on October 7th in Germantown.

- I'm very excited to see what's going on with the restaurant (Hustle & Dough) and bar (Bar Hustle) in the Arrive Hotel in South Main, formerly the MCA building.

- Sweet Grass and Next Door will combine to become one big restaurant/bar/menu with a spacious U-shaped bar. According to Jennifer B. at the Daily Memphian, they'll still have shrimp & grits, nachos, and eventually will bring back oysters.

- Catfish Cabin on Airways is now Bell's Catfish & Soul Food Restaurant, still serving up fried catfish and hushpuppies but hopefully without all the drama.

- Elwood's Shells will open their new big patio for dining seating in a month or so.

- Second Line and Restaurant Iris have made several changes to their hours. Second Line is no longer serving lunch Mon. - Thu, and Iris is doing Saturday and Sunday brunch. There is always complimentary valet parking. New hours:

Second Line
dinner 7 days a week
Friday lunch
Saturday and Sunday brunch

Restaurant Iris
dinner 7 days a week
Saturday and Sunday brunch

More ICYMI News:

- Slim & Husky's Nashville-based pizza joint will open in The Edge District.
- Margarita's still plans to open at Cooper and Young in the former Strano space but we have no idea when.
- P.O. Press has closed their Collierville Town Square location, according to a press release that mentioned landlord and black mold problems. They're looking for a new location.
- Maciel's will open in the former Tart space in Cooper Young.
- South of Beale will move to 345 S. Main in spring 2020 because they need a bigger kitchen.
- Maciel's Highland (not affiliated with the OG downtown Maciel's nor the one coming to CY) is now an axe-throwing bar called Highland Axe & Rec, owned by the Rec Room/Railgarten/Loflin people.
- The Bass Pro Pyramid will turn one of their patios into "Mississippi Terrace", an outdoor bar and lounge open to the public. This is different from their rooftop stuff.

What'd I miss? Leave me a nice note in the comments and I'll look into it.
