365 Things to Do in Memphis #275: India Fest

Updated October 2019

On November 2, 2019, head to the Agricenter for a day-long annual celebration of Memphis' Indian community and the diversity and culture of India. Assignment #275 in the 365 Things to Do in Memphis is to check out India Fest.

India Fest, Memphis, Tenn.

There's so much going on at India Fest that it could easily be a weekend-long festival. There's a bazaar where you can shop for traditional Indian clothing, jewelry, and goods from more than 50 vendors. There's Bollywood dancing, henna painting, music, cultural info, and more.

There's also food. Tons and tons of food.

Part of the Agricenter is turned into a giant Indian food court with cooking teams selling all kinds of things: curry, naan, desserts, sandwiches. Many of the offerings are vegetarian and vegan friendly and the majority of them are inexpensive.

India Fest is on Saturday, Nov. 2 at the Agricenter from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tickets are $5 for adults, $2 for kids ages 5 to 12, and free for kids 4 and under.

I have been to India Fest several times in recent years and it is a great experience.  If you are not Indian, it is a great way to get to know this fasinating culture. The food is wonderful (and cheap as Kerry said) so it is a great way to try new foods.  Everyone is so friendly, you are sure to have a good time.
