5 Reasons To Celebrate 901 Day at Exposure

Updated for 2019

This year, New Memphis and iBank are combining forces again to host and official 901 Day event to acknowledge this unofficial holiday.

Exposure 2019 is Thursday, August 29 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and is totally free and family-friendly. This year, they’re moving from AutoZone Park to the Plaza and Concourse at FedExForum. Keep in mind that the photos in this post are from past years, so this year will have a shiny new exciting look and feel.

Here are five reasons you should make plans to be there.

1. It’s free to go.
It doesn’t cost you anything to attend Exposure on 901 Day, and there will be free samples, lots to do and see, and be entertained by.

2. It’s going to be huge.

(TL;DR: A ton of Memphis entities – from sports to activities to breweries to local biz to non-profits – will be set up with free stuff and chances to learn more about those organizations.)

There’s a whole big list of the more than 100 organizations, but think: Literacy Mid-South, The Wolf River Conservancy, Explore Bike Share, Memphis Roller Derby, Porter-Leath, Memphis Botanic Gardens, Memphis Public Libraries, MIFA, Latino Memphis, Muddy’s, Stax Museum.

3. Celebrity Bicentennial Games
Cheer for your favorite local celebs like Chef Kelly English, WKNO’s Kacky Walton, and yours truly embarrass ourselves competing in field-day and pop culture games. I’ve heard a rumor about a lip-syncing contest. More details on this later.

Celebrity kickball game from years past. Who knows what they’re making us do this year.

4. Full Lineup of Entertainment
The stage will be hopping all night, with Grizz Line, Grizz Girls, Beale Street Flippers, belly dancers, aerialists, and loads of live music.

5. Surround yourself with fellow Memphis lovers.

In years past, thousands of Memphians filled the stadium at Exposure, and the feeling was electric. This year at FedExForum and during our bicentennial year, I’m expecting even more encouragement, inspiration, enlightenment, and fun.

The world is full of negativity and naysayers right now. We have a lot of work to do in our city and our country. But if you’re like me, you appreciate a day surrounded by people who want to uplift Memphis instead of shaking their fists at the sky or type angrily behind a computer screen. Feel me?

I believe that Exposure on 901 Day and other 901 Day events (it is a grassroots holiday, after all) is a chance to do just that. RSVPs aren’t required, but they help with planning. You can RSVP here. Go Memphis!

I write about what’s going on with Memphis music, food, arts, events, sports, people, and culture. Memphians love Elvis and barbeque with a passion that must be seen to be believed, but there is so much more to this place.
