10 Ways To Give Back To Memphis This Month (June 2019)
Volunteer Odyssey is back with another super fun list of ways to give back to Memphis this summer! Check out these 10 ideas, whether you like working with kids, love being outdoors, or consider yourself a Memphis foodie.
1. Wolf River Conservancy’s Beer & Bagel Off-Road Race: Saturday, June 8th from 8am-1pm
The inaugural Beer & Bagel Off-Road Race is coming to the Wolf River Greenway! Volunteers are needed to assist with race registration & packet pickup, water stops, course monitoring, and water distribution at the Finish Line.
2. Memphis Child Advocacy Center’s Grand Opening: Monday, June 10th from 3-7pm
The Memphis Child Advocacy Center is hosting a public grand opening of our Expanded and Enhanced campus on Monday, June 10, 4-6 pm. Volunteers are needed before and after to help set up outdoor areas, direct traffic to off-site parking location, direct cars and pedestrians on-site, and clean up. 18 years and older to volunteer. Accompanied children are welcome between 4-6 pm.
3. Germantown Parks and Recreation Groovin’ and Grillin’ Concert Series: every Tuesday in June from 5:30pm-8:00pm
Help out at one of Germantown’s favorite events- Groovin’ and Grillin! Volunteers will be responsible for assisting with food and drink distribution throughout the concert as well as facilitating games and crowd involvement. Concerts occur every Tuesday in June.
4. Craft Food and Wine Festival benefitting Church Health: Sunday, June 23rd from 2-10:30pm
The 2019 Craft Food and Wine Festival features a vast variety of high-quality craft foods and beverages. The festival showcases locally-produced breads, cheeses, fruit preserves, cured meats and more from 40 vendors. Volunteers are needed to help run the event.
5. Clean Memphis’ Frayser Parking Lot Cleanup: Saturday, June 8th from 9am-noon
Volunteers are needed to help clean up the Frayser community. Volunteers will be picking up trash and debris to beautify the area.
6. Levitt Shell Memphis 2019 Spring Season: every Thursday through Sunday until July 21st from 6-9:30pm
Join the Levitt Shell in Overton Park as a volunteer in our 10th Fall season of free music in Memphis. There are multiple volunteer opportunities Thursday through Sunday each week. Help us make it happen by volunteering your time & talents. We will give you a volunteer t-shirt & badge which you will wear at events to identify you as a volunteer to the audience. 7. Memphis Botanic Garden’s Caterpillar Club Camp: June 17th to July 19th from 8:30am-1pm
Memphis Botanic Garden needs volunteers to assist with this fun summer camp. This opportunity is great for volunteers that love kids. Volunteers will work along staff members to help run activities throughout the day.
8. Room In the Inn at Emmanuel UMC Gym: Saturday, June 29th from 4:30-8pm
Together with over 40 other faith communities across Memphis participating in Room In The Inn (RITI), Emmanuel United Methodist Church transforms its gym to provide emergency shelter and meals for up to 15 guests every Saturday night during the “winter” months (November 1 – March 31) of the regular RITI season, and the 4th and 5th Saturdays May – September. Volunteers are needed to help set up, greet, and assist with the clothes closet.
9. Playhouse on the Square: Usher for “Matilda: The Musical”: Friday, June 21st to July 14th at various times
Volunteers are needed to usher for Playhouse on the Square’s latest show, “Matilda: The Musical”. The main duties for ushers are greeting patrons, passing out programs, checking tickets, helping patrons find seats, and light cleaning after the show. The big perk of ushering at Playhouse is you get to watch the performance you usher for free!
10. Healthy Life Sports Camp’s Tennessee Summer Feeding Program Receptionist: every Monday until August 5th from 6-8pm
Looking for the opportunity to help feed dinners to hundreds of youth in the Memphis area? Come and volunteer your time for our Tennessee Summer Feeding programs. Free hot meals will be served Monday – Fridays, 6:00pm – 7:30pm. Receptionists would be first to greet kids upon arrival.
