Warm up for Memphis in May with a cooking competition and festival that honors Memphis’ second favorite food (after barbecue): hot wings.

Love wings, but never been? Here’s what you need to know:

When is the Memphis Hot Wing Fest? It is usually the last weekend in April. In 2019, it will be on Saturday, April 13.

Where is Hot Wing Fest? In 2019, the hot wing fest is back at Tiger Lane at the Liberty Bowl in midtown. Conveniently located right next to where the Memphis Express will play a game on the same day! It used to be at Mississippi River Park.

How much are hot wing fest tickets in Memphis? Tickets are $25 at the gate or $17 in advance online or at the Ronald McDonald House, and free for veterans, military, and kids ages 12 and under. Read more here.

The cause: All proceeds from the event go to Ronald McDonald House, which gives families a place to stay while their child is getting treatment at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Organizers say that the event has raised more than $240,000 over the years.

How to Eat The Wings: If you ask really nicely and bring some ones, you can taste wings for a $1-$2 per wing donation in the team’s bucket, which goes directly to the Ronald McDonald House. Wings will not be officially for sale from competition tents.

New This Year (2019!) Memphis Express Combo Tickets: I’m impressed with this collaboration, for the record. For $30, you can get a ticket which lets you in to the Hot Wing Festival and the Memphis Express game v. the Atlanta Legends that night. The football game kicks off at 7 p.m. Remember, Wing Fest tickets are $17 minimum, and game tickets are $25 minimum. So a combo ticket? That’s a sweet deal.

Hot Wing Fest, Memphis, Tenn.

Do bring: Cash, sunscreen, kids (12 and under can get in free and there’s a Kids Zone).

Don’t bring: Pets, coolers, or outside food or drinks.

Music: Live music at multiple stages! Check out the lineup: http://www.southernhotwingfestival.com/music-line-up/

It's been a good time the past few years. If you like wings, that is (and who doesn't?)

  2. Chuck says:

is it too late to enter the wing eating contest? cant i just attempt to enter the contest at the gate?
