10 Ways To Give Back To Memphis This Month (February 2019)

Volunteer Odyssey and I Love Memphis make it super easy for you to help the city you love by publishing this monthly list of easy, fun ways to volunteer in Memphis. We do it every month! Don't forget that Mix-Odyssey is coming up in March.
1. Playhouse on the Square: Usher for ‘Tuck Everlasting”: every Thursday through Sunday until February 9th from 7-10:30pm
Playhouse on the Square needs volunteers to usher during their shows. The main duties for ushers include greeting patrons, passing out programs, checking tickets, helping patrons find seats, and doing light cleaning after the show. As an usher, you’ll be able to watch the performance for free!
2. Memphis Botanic Garden’s Whiskey, Wine and Chocolates: Saturday, February 9th from 6:30-10:30pm
Visitors celebrate Valentine's Day with premium Whiskey, Wine and Chocolate. Chocolates are specially crafted and designed by renowned chocolatier, Phillip Ashley, and paired with premium beverages. For this event we need volunteers that are over the age of 21. Volunteers will be assisting with food serving, chocolate servers, greeters and clean-up crew.
3. Wolf River Conservancy’s 14th Annual Tree Planting: Saturday, February 16th at from 9am-1pm
This Annual Tree Planting is the largest volunteer event for the Wolf River Conservancy. Hundreds of volunteers come out each year to help plant native trees in partnership with Shelby Farms Park and the West Tennessee Chapter of the TN Urban Forestry Council. Volunteers are needed to help with parking, registration, and more.
4. GiveCamp Memphis 2019: Friday, February 22nd through Sunday, February 24th
GiveCamp is a weekend event where local devs, designers, marketers, social media gurus, and other professionals’ band together to help provide non-profits with solutions ranging from websites to mobile apps to Excel spreadsheets. The weekend long event is a fantastic way to give back to the community and gain valuable experience. GiveCamp needs volunteers with any and all skills from developers to marketers, at any level of expertise.
5. Girls Inc: Planting Season at the Youth Farm: every Wednesday and Friday from 8am-11am
Join the Girls Inc. Youth Farm and help plant, harvest, and seed for the upcoming season. Be sure to dress for the weather. Gloves and tools will be provided.
6. Read to Me at St. Jude: Thursday, February 28th from 12-1pm
Join us for an incredible volunteer opportunity at St. Jude. This is a great way to spend your lunch break! Volunteers will read with and entertain kids waiting for their appointments at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Volunteers who speak Spanish are encouraged to participate! You'll read to the patients in the waiting rooms and help them select a favorite book to take home with them.
7. Dorothy Day House’s Monday Night Meal: every Monday from 5:30-7pm
Dorothy Day House needs volunteers to provide a community meal for both of their locations. The volunteers supply a simple dinner for the residents of DDH and joining them for a meal and fellowship. This is a great opportunity to do with your kids.
8. Urban Bicycle Food Ministry Wednesday Evening Burrito Ride: every Wednesday night from 7:30-9pm
Join Urban Bicycle Food Ministry in distributing burritos by bicycle to the homeless in downtown and midtown. In addition to burritos, they also distribute water, gloves, blankets, etc. Volunteers should provide their own bicycle and helmet.
9. Big Brother Big Sisters of the Mid-South’s Laurelwood 15k Race: Sunday, February 17th from 6:30am-noon
This year a portion of the proceeds from the Laurelowood 15k will go to Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Mid-South, so they need volunteers to help man the race. Volunteers are needed to help with parking, registration, t-shirt organization, food distribution, award distribution, and clean up.
10. Memphis Botanic Garden’s: Show the Garden some LOVE week: Monday, February 11th through Friday, February 15th
Show the Memphis Botanic Garden some LOVE this Valentine's season! Join us as we present a week of events dedicated to spreading love to the Garden! Each day will feature a different event, so bring your friends, family, and your sweetheart to volunteer!
