365 Things to Do in Memphis #193: Vote for the Best of Memphis

It's that time again: nominations are open for Memphis' most legit reader's poll. Assignment #193 in the 365 Things to Do in Memphis is to cast your ballot for the Memphis Flyer's Best of Memphis.

I look forward to the Memphis Flyer's annual poll every year. It seems much more democratic and legitimate than a lot of polls.

From now until June 28 (at 11:59 p.m. CST) you can nominate your favorite local businesses, restaurants, bars, media, people, and more. Let's really get some good ones in there! Once voting opens on August 1 at midnight, here are a few things to keep in mind:

1.) You have to fill out at least 50 percent of the ballot in order for it to count, and you can only vote once.

2.) There are drop down menus with some popular nominees, but if you've got a better candidate, you can write your answers in the blanks provided. (Speaking of those blanks, I really wish that the Flyer would go back to publishing the funniest write-in answers.)

3.) Please - and this is a personal request - vote local. This is the Best of Memphis poll, not the Best Stuff You Can Find Anywhere poll. In short, please don't vote Olive Garden for best Italian or Starbucks for best coffee.

Who are you voting for this year? What categories do you wish were included?

It's funny that you mentioned Best Italian.  That is the ONLY category where I did not vote local, because just about every local Italian restaurant has disappointed me since Giovanni's left Cleveland Street in the 1980s.  I voted Carrabba's, sadly. Everything else?  Pure local!

And, to clarify, I separate delis like Fino's or Vanelli's from the full-blown restaurant category.

Have any of you tried "Brooklyn Bridge" Italian Restaurant ? It is phenomenal. I've traveled across the country and it's some of the best Italian I've ever had. It is super delicious! The owner Georgio is very friendly and helpful. I can't say enough about this place. It's is definitely a hidden gem in Memphis!
