Happy Friday, Memphis! Here are the five things you won’t want to miss in Memphis this weekend, plus a few extras. Don’t forget to check out the Valentine’s, Mardi Gras, and Super Bowl guides, or the Listen Up! February, or the guide to volunteer ideas for this month.

1. JustLarry’s MAYHEM 2018, Evergreen Theater, Friday – Saturday, 8 p.m., $20, 18+
Larry Clark hosts a variety show this weekend complete with aerialists, illusionists, burlesque, dancers, singers, comedians, and more.

2. R.LUM.R, The 1884 Lounge at Minglewood Hall, Friday, $15-$17, show at 9 p.m., 18 and over
Named by Rolling Stone as “An Artist You Need to Know,” this Nashville-based rising R&B artist will begin his North American tour in our charming city. You’ll be “Frustrated” if you miss his performance filled with alternative R&B beats, charming pop synths, and velvety power vocals. Read more from Listen Up! here.

3. Polar Bear Plunge + Chili Cookoff, Mud Island River Park, Saturday, 10:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., $5 to judge the chili contest, all ages
Support the Special Olympics at the Bluff City Fire + Ice event this Saturday. You – yes you – can judge the People’s Choice chili cooking contest and try all the teams’ recipes for just $5. If you’re into it, you can jump into the absolutely frigid Wolf River for $50 (it’s a fundraiser!) or you can people watch everyone in their costumes (and maybe make a donation, too). I’m hearing there’s a DJ and beer and it’s a good time all day.

4. Cirque du CMOM, Children’s Museum Grand Carousel Pavilion, Saturday, 7 p.m., $150, 21+
Support CMOM at the annual Cirque du CMOM party, which is at the new Carousel this year and is vintage circus themed. They’ll have live music, plus a silent disco and a late-night DJ. food samples from a selection of Memphis restaurants – including late night Kyrstal’s and Gibson’s donuts – plus Amurica photo booth, carousel rides, an auction, and more. It’s essentially a fancy wedding without the wedding part.

5. Super Bowl Sunday
Whether you care about the game or don’t even know which teams are playing, you might find the Super Bowl Guide interesting. Find a place to watch, order some food to go, or seek out the best hot wings in town.

I write about what’s going on with Memphis music, food, arts, events, sports, people, and culture. Memphians love Elvis and barbeque with a passion that must be seen to be believed, but there is so much more to this place.

MIni vacation this weekend in Memphis. (February 10-12th, 2018) Two adult couples staying in downtown area. What’s going on? Live music on Beale? Mardi Gras? Tell me about Mardi Crawl on S. Main St. What is that? We are from Louisiana and just came to play and see the town.
