10 Ways To Give Back To Memphis This Month (March 2018)
Volunteer Odyssey and I Love Memphis make it super easy for you to help the city you love by publishing a monthly list of easy, fun ways to give back. Here are ten ideas for March.
1. Neighborhood Christian Center’s Spring Jam- Germany: March 1st through 10th
For Spring Jam 2018, NCC’s North Center, which is a 25,000 square foot building will be artistically transformed into Germany. NCC will create an authentic two-hour travel experience that includes mock passports, vaccinations, TSA screenings, a simulated flight experience, traditional restaurant, and currency exchange. Volunteers are needed to assist with building sets, assisting in the restaurant, serve as Tour Guides, and much more.
2. Big Brothers Big Sisters Volunteer Orientation Meeting: Saturday, March 3rd from 10:00am-11:00am
Ever wanted an extra younger brother or sister? Someone you could mentor and play games with? Now’s the time to achieve that goal! Head over to Big Brothers Big Sisters’ March orientation and check out what it means to be a mentor.
3. Ride-Along! With MIFA Meals on Wheels: Monday- Friday, March 5th– 9th from 9:00am-12:00pm
Considering becoming a MIFA Meals on Wheels volunteer? Test drive a Meals on Wheels volunteer experience. We’ll pair you up with one of our veteran volunteers for a morning ride along. It’s great way to get an up-close look at our delivery program and the seniors we serve.

4. Shelby Farms Park Weed Wrangle: Saturday, March 3rd from 9:00am to 11:30am
Care about the local environment? Help to eradicate the invasive Chinese privet from the Shelby Farms forests. All tools will be provided. Please bring gloves and a personal water bottle.
5. Refugee Memphis’ Shower of Blessings: Tuesday, March 6th from 5:30-6:30pm
Show the people experiencing homelessness in Memphis that you care. This program sends out vans to pick up homeless individuals to come get fresh clothing, toiletries, take a hot shower, and are provided with a hot meal, plus dessert, along with a to go meal and a bag of items to hold them over until next pick up
6. Volunteer Odyssey’s VolunCheers benefitting Catholic Charities: Tuesday, March 13th 6:00pm- 7:30pm
This month’s Voluncheers benefits Catholic Charities, an organization working to support the homeless community. Have a beer and volunteer to make some day bags for our homeless neighbors.
7. Levitt Shell’s Volunteer Orientation Meeting: Tuesday, March 27th from 5:30pm-6:30pm
Want to support the Levitt Shell? Come learn more about being a volunteer with us at our informational training session. Sign up before March, you’ll receive an invitation to the 2018 Launch Party. At each meeting we will discuss decisions around Levitt Shell programs. Hope you will join us!
8. GrowMemphis’ St. Paul Gardens Volunteer: every Tuesday and Wednesday from 8:00am-3:00pm
Grow Memphis needs volunteers to help harvest and plant fruit and vegetables! Volunteers in the St. Paul garden will engage in all types of growing activities from planting, harvesting, and washing produce; garden maintenance such as weeding, pruning, and picking up trash; and other unique garden activities such as feeding worms and harvesting worm castings.
9. Catholic Charities of West Tennessee’s Food Pantry: every Monday through Wednesday from 9:00am-1:00pm
Help feed people experiencing homelessness in Memphis by sorting and handing out donated food to Catholic Charities clients! This is a great opportunity to do as a family.
10. Memphis Botanic Garden’s Family Egg Hunt: Saturday, March 31st from 12:00pm to 5pm
The annual Garden-wide Egg Hunt provides fun and entertainment to children and families of all ages.Volunteers will help with visitor Admissions, Bunny and Photo Assistant, concessions, craft stations, game stations, Egg Hunt guards, Egg Hiders, costumed characters, and/or grounds maintenance. Volunteers should be prepared for outdoor weather, and wear comfortable and appropriate clothing.
