Happy Friday Memphis! Here are the five things you won’t want to miss, plus a few extras.

1. International Blues Challenge, Beale Street, through Saturday, prices vary, all ages/late night shows may be 21+
Hundreds of blues musicians are in town from around the world for competition and recognition. This is really cool that we have this here in Memphis. Tonight there’s the Youth Showcase starting a 5 p.m. and the Semifinals at 6:20 p.m., both taking place at various clubs on Beale. There are blues jams at B.B. Kings and Club 152 after that. On Saturday, the Orpheum will host the IBC Finals starting at noon. Read more here.

2. DreamFest7, 1884 Lounge / MGM Field (456 Tillman Street), Friday / Sunday, $10 / donation, 18+ / all ages
This event was rescheduled/rearranged from last weekend! Friday night is a group concert at 1884 Lounge at Minglewood Hall; tickets are $10. Sunday is DreamFest Bowl charity flag football game between teams of local musicians salting a 1pm at MGM Field at 456 Tillman Street, Entry is a donation to the Memphis Artists for change. The producer battle that was originally scheduled for Jan. 13 will be held on Feb. 4 at the Renaissance, time TBA.

3. Teen Arts Fest, Memphis Central Library, Saturday, 11 a.m. – 3 p.m., free, all ages/kid-friendly
This is a chance for you to support young Memphis artists – and walk away with some unique art for yourself! The Library hosts this first-ever Teen Arts Fest on Saturday afternoon.

4. Arts Unite! Dance + Food, New Ballet Ensemble (2157 York Ave.), Saturday, 1:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m., free, all ages/kid-friendly
New Ballet Ensemble in Cooper Young (a steps away from the I Love Memphis mural) will host an afternoon of dance workshops and food trucks they’re calling Arts Unite – this was rescheduled from last weekend. People of all ages can join in free half hour classes for salsa, ballet, and breakdancing, and more, plus enjoy food from MemPop’s, Crumpy’s wings, DejaVu, and voodoo Cafe. See the class schedule here.

5. Harlem Globetrotters 2018 World Tour, FedExForum, Saturday, 2 p.m., $20+, all ages/kid-friendly
A family-friendly, high-energy event held indoors? JACKPOT. These world-renowned b-ball entertainers take on The Washington Generals (the bad guys) this Saturday afternoon. Photos and autographs afterwards.

I write about what’s going on with Memphis music, food, arts, events, sports, people, and culture. Memphians love Elvis and barbeque with a passion that must be seen to be believed, but there is so much more to this place.
