Memphis Fashion Week Returns With Nicole Miller Runway Show, Emerging Designers, and More
The 2017 Memphis Fashion Week kicks off next Wednesday, April 5, and I have all your need-to-know info right here.
The big events: there are two runways shows. On Friday April 7, headlining designer Nicole Miller (who has dressed the likes of Beyonce, Blake Lively, and Eva Longoria, so she’s super legit) will show her Spring/Summer ’17 Collection at Crosstown Concourse (yes, that’s before Crosstown Concourse is open to the public). Saturday is the Emerging Designers Runway Show at Rust Hall at MCA, featuring 19 local designers showcasing a few pieces each. At that show, the audience can pick their favorite designers.
There are a few other events, including a Kickoff party and Trunk Show at the Lab Wednesday, a Preview Party / Nicole Miller Trunk Show hosted by Kittie Kyle in Chickasaw Oaks Village on Thursday, and a full collection show from former Emerging Designer Tiena Gwin on Saturday. Get the full schedule here, and be sure to buy your tickets here ahead of time. You can buy tickets up to the day of the show or at the door.
If you’ve never been to a MFW event or show before, I think the main thing to remember is that it’s not stuffy – it’s a party! It’s really a chance to wear fun clothes (you know, that thing that’s been in your closet forever…), enjoy food and cocktails, get inspired and celebrate the work of local and national designers. So don’t intimidated if you’ve never been to a fashion show.
It’s also good to remember that Memphis Fashion Week is biggest fundraiser for the Memphis Fashion Design network The network hosts year-round talks and support events for local and up-and-coming designers and also supports the Memphis Fashion Lab on Flicker Street. I recently participated in a panel on social media for young designers, fashion retail owners, and others (see photo below from local fashion blogger and stylist Kim Thomas.)
It’s been really cool over the years to see a true fashion community – a “scene” if you will – develop in Memphis, when there wasn’t necessarily a formal one before.
There are a couple of ticket options including a $225 weekend pass, $60 nightly general admission, and $30 student tickets. Again, get your tickets right here.
