Happy Friday, Memphis! Here are the five things you won’t want to miss in Memphis this weekend, plus a few extras. Keep in mind that I’m out of the country until March 12, so I’ll be slow on responding to Tweets, approving events/comments, etc.

1. JustLarry’s Theater Bizarre, Theatreworks, Friday – Saturday, 8 p.m. – 10 p.m., $10 advance, 16+
Native Memphis and international circus star JUSTLARRY is back. Watch him walk on glass, show off his circus skills, appear out of thin air on a bare stage, display his vintage vaudeville style manipulations and more.

2. Cooper Young Farmers Market Seed Swap, First Congo Parking Lot, Saturday, 9 a.m. – 1 p.m., free – $1, all ages
Did you know that the Cooper Young Community Farmers Market happens every Saturday, year round? (Yes, even in winter.) This Saturday is their annual seed swap, where you can share and buy seeds from local farmers and friends. Plus all your usual vendors. More details.

3. Roller Derby Double Header, Pipkin Building, Saturday, doors at 5 p.m./ bout at 6 p.m., $10, all ages/kid-friendly
The first bout of our competitive season is a double header against the fierce Derby City Roller Girls. There will be snacks, merch, and – of course – your favorite derby skaters. Adults 13 years & up are $10 at the door ($9 pre-sale online), kids 5 to 12 are $5, children 4 and younger are free admission.

4. Mix-Odyssey, BRIDGES, Saturday, 7 p.m. – 10 p.m., $65, 21+
Sample cocktails from seven local mixologists and vote for your favorites, plus enjoy snacks, music from DJ Justin Baker, and a fortune teller ready to tell you about your volunteering future. Proceeds benefit Volunteer Odyssey. Read more here.

From the Orpheum: “Two-time GRAMMY® Award-winning artist Terrance Simien has been shattering the myths about what his indigenous Zydeco roots music is — and is not. Leading his five-piece, highly skilled and well-traveled Zydeco Experience band, Simien has become one of the most respected and accomplished artists in American roots music today.” His daughter’s band (and Memphis favorite) Marcella & Her Lovers will open.

I write about what’s going on with Memphis music, food, arts, events, sports, people, and culture. Memphians love Elvis and barbeque with a passion that must be seen to be believed, but there is so much more to this place.
