Happy Friday, Memphis! This week on the blog was a busy one, so don’t miss any of the posts about ice skating downtown, Elvis’ birthday celebrations, special Grizzlies games, ways to give back to the community, the new concert venue coming to the U of M district, a sweet deal on The Guest House at Graceland, Indie Memphis movies, and finally…a chance to win courtside seats at a Grizzlies game.

Also, check out this list of things your fellow Memphis lovers look forward to this year.

Here are the five things you won’t want to miss this weekend, plus plenty of extras.

1. Red Grooms: Traveling Correspondent Exhibit, Brooks Museum, All Weekend, $7 adults/$3 students and youth, all ages
This weekend (specifically the 8th) is the last chance to see Red Grooms’ exhibit at the Brooks.  Chris Herrington at the Commercial Appeal says it’s particularly kid-friendly. The Museum is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday.

2. 2017 Memphis Bike Swap, Minglewood Hall, Saturday, 10 a.m. – 3 p.m., free to attend, all ages

3. Elvis’ Birthday Celebrations, Graceland, Saturday – Sunday, free, all ages
Celebrate The King’s would-be 82nd birthday at Graceland with a few official events. At noon on Saturday, Elvis fan clubs will gather in front of Graceland Gates to sing gospel and Happy Birthday. Sunday at 9:30 a.m. on Graceland’s North Lawn is the official Elvis Birthday soiree with a ceremony, cake cutting, and proclamation of “Elvis Presley Day”.  See a full list of ways to celebrate his birthday here.

4. Time Warp Drive-In: Alien Double Feature, Malco Summer Drive-In, Saturday, 6:30 p.m., $10, all ages (parental discretion strongly advised)
Black Lodge Video and Guerrilla Monster Films bring us the first Time Warp Drive In night of 2017. They’ll show 1979 sci-fi/horror masterpiece ALIEN followed by the sequel, ALIENS.

I write about what’s going on with Memphis music, food, arts, events, sports, people, and culture. Memphians love Elvis and barbeque with a passion that must be seen to be believed, but there is so much more to this place.
