5 Things To Do This Weekend: 11/18 – 11/20

Happy Friday, Memphis! Here are the five things you won’t want to miss this weekend, plus a few extras.

Funksgiving,  Clayborn Temple, Friday, 7 p.m. – 11 p.m., $8-$12, all ages
Listen to old and new funk played by Bluff City Soul Collective & Southern Ave. Tickets are $8 online or $12 at the door. Drinks start at 7 p.m., band starts at 8 p.m.

Nut Remix, Canon Center, Friday – Sunday, times vary, $15 – $50, all ages/kid friendly
New Ballet Ensemble school performs their annual mash-up of dance styles – including ballet, African,  jookin,  and more – to bring a new twist to the traditional Nutcracker, accompanied by the Memphis Symphony Orchestra. The show is at 7:30 p.m. on Fri. 5:30 p.m. on Sat., and 2:30 p.m. on Sun.

Spillit Story Grand Slam, Clayborn Temple, Saturday, doors at 6 p.m./stories at 7 p.m., $20 cash, all ages
Winners of Slams from the whole year will compete for title of Grand Master Storyteller and the theme is Education. And it’s going to be inside the historic Clayborn Temple. This is going to be amazing.

Cranksgiving, Wolf River Trails/Bikesmith, Friday and Saturday, $5 – $20, all ages
Support the Urban Bicycle Food Ministry this weekend at two Cranksgiving events. First, there’s a Mountain Bike Ride at the Wolf River Trails trailhead on Friday evening ($20 entry fee). On Saturday, head to the Bikesmith shop – on the west end of Broad Ave. – for cyclocross races on their pump track. There’s a kids fun ride at 9 ($5), a cyclocross race at 9:30 ($20), and an after party with raffles.

Santa Landing, Pink Palace Museum, Saturday, 9 a.m., free, all ages/kid-friendly
Santa is flying in on a helicopter. Take the kids to see, then head inside to check out the Enchanted Forest’s opening day. Tickets required for Enchanted Forest.

Don’t forget about these two markets:

MCA’s 66th Annual Holiday Bazaar, Rust Hall (1930 Poplar Avenue), Friday – Saturday, $25 Preview Night/Saturday free
Memphis’ original artist market returns this year with a carefully curated collection of handmade gifts and fine art. The Bazaar kicks off with an Early Bird Sale & Reception on Friday, Nov. 18 from 5–10 p.m. ($25/person, cash bar), and continues on Saturday, Nov. 19 from 10 a.m.–5 p.m. with an Open Market sale (free admission, cash bar inside, food trucks on site). Proceeds benefit the artists as well as the MCA Scholarship Fund.

Memphis Potters Guild Annual Holiday Show & Sale, Memphis Botanic Garden, Friday – Sunday, free to enter
Local artists will sell porcelain, stoneware, earthenware, ceramics, and more. The opening reception is Friday, Nov. 18 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. and the market is open Saturday, Nov. 19 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday, Nov. 20 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
