The Memphis Grizzlies NBA 2016 – 2017 season begins this week. While many (most?) bars around town will tune in to the Grizzlies on TV, here are some of the more popular places for fans to gather if it’s an away game or you can’t make it to FexExForum.

Here’s a quick list, sorted by neighborhood (generally). I’ve included my random thoughts and comments.

Downtown

– Aldo’s – both midtown and downtown locations
– Bardog Tavern
– Blind Bear – smoking inside
– Flying Saucer – while the downtown location tends to clear out around tip-off, still a solid spot for pre- or post-game
– Huey’s
– Kooky Kanuck
– Local (downtown)
– Max’s Sports Bar – no longer smoking inside! they have a projector on the (smoking) patio sometimes
– The Pub – next door to the Brass Door, chill spot for sports watchin’ (yes, it used to be the Mad Earl)
– South of Beale

Midtown

– Aldo’s – both midtown and downtown locations
– Alex’s Tavern – dive bar, sports bar, underrated bbq and ribs
– The Bayou – plenty of TVs and a few projector screens
– Huey’s
– Local on the Square
– Sweet Grass Next Door – service is slow but it remains a hot spot to watch games
– Young Avenue Deli – service can be slow if it’s crowded, and double check that they’re showing Grizz if there’s also a fight that night

East Memphis

– Brookhaven Pub
– East Tapas – quieter spot, but with several bar-area TVs
– Fox and Hound (East Memphis)
– Hog & Hominy – only a few TVs at the bar
– Huey’s
– Newby’s
– RP Tracks
– Ubee’s – usually has solid drink specials

Outside The Loop

– Booya’s (Collierville) – I’ve heard good things
– Flying Saucer (Cordova) – usually doesn’t play the sound
– Fox and Hound (Cordova)
– Huey’s
– Kooky Canuck (Cordova) – you may have to ask for the sound
– Old Whitten Tavern (Bartlett, with a Memphis address) – has multiple big screens, will host watch parties on occasion
– Sammy Hagar’s (Southland Gaming in West Memphis)

Shoutout to my pals Parks, Andy, and Nick for their input on this list.

Where’s your favorite spot to catch games? If you, dear reader, have suggestions, leave ’em in the comments!

I write about what’s going on with Memphis music, food, arts, events, sports, people, and culture. Memphians love Elvis and barbeque with a passion that must be seen to be believed, but there is so much more to this place.
