10 Ways To Love Memphis This Month (June 2016)
June is here! Once again, I Love Memphis has teamed up with Volunteer Odyssey to bring you unique ways to give back to our city this month. Here are ten fun ways to show your love for Memphis.
Several of these opportunities are early in the month, so check this out now and sign up today.
1. Memphis Grizzlies Foundation Mentor Program Orientation: Wednesday, June 1st and Tuesday, June 14th from 6-7pm
Join the Grizzlies Foundation as they seek mentors for the 2016-2017 school year. Volunteer as a mentor and create meaningful relationships with 7th and 8th graders. By attending a mentor orientation, you will gain knowledge about being a mentor and the necessary obligations it entails.
2. Memphis Farmers Market: Every Saturday from 6am-1:30pm.
If you want to give back to your community and educate people about eating healthy, volunteering at the Memphis Farmers Market (MFM) is a great opportunity for you! Volunteers are essential to a successful market day. Whether you’d like to roll up your sleeves and get some dirt on your hands or man the pet sitting tent, there are countless duties to get involved in each Saturday.
3. Overton Park Conservancy’s Day of Merrymaking: Friday, June 3rd from 3-7 pm; Saturday, June 4th from 8am-5pm.
Spread some joy at this family festival! From a performance by the Chinese Connection Dub Embassy to a beer garden, this event has so much to offer for all ages! Volunteers are needed on both the day before the event (June 3) and the day of the event (June 4) for various activities, including vendor load-in, set up, tear down, greeting, and more!
4. Neighborhood Christian Centers, Inc.’s Mission Market Food Distribution: Wednesdays, June 8th, 22nd, and 29th from 12-2pm
Food insecurity is one of the biggest problems in the Memphis area. To make a difference in this daily hardship faced by thousands of our community members, volunteer to help distribute food to families. If weather permits, events will be outside.
5. ITN Memphis Volunteer Driver Program Information Session and “Ride-A-Long”: Thursday, June 9th from 10-11:30am
“Ride-a-long” with volunteer drivers for a short drive as they transport ITN customers (seniors and people with visual impairments) wherever they would like to go within the Memphis Metropolitan Area. Whether ITN customers want to go shopping, to visit friends, or need transportation to a medical appointment, volunteers can help customers get to their dream destination.
6. Big Mobile Food Distribution: Thursday, June 9th from 2-4pm
Feed over 300 households by bagging and readying food for distribution. You can make a difference. 50 volunteer spots are available, and they’re filling up quickly, so sign up today!
7. Brewville @ DeNeuville Homebrew Competition: Saturday, June 11th from 3-9pm
Music. Food. Beer. These are a few of your favorite things. Help out with this amazing event by setting up, cleaning up, or working with food service. Two shift options are available: 3-6pm or 6-9pm.
8. VolunCheers: Monday, June 13th from 6-7:30pm
Join Volunteer Odyssey for VolunCheers benefitting the American Cancer Society! With their volunteer happy hour, you can fit volunteering into your busy schedule and meet new people. Drinks and snacks are provided.

9. VolunCheers Minute Match: Wednesday, June 15th from 5:30-7:30pm
Discover your perfect volunteer opportunity by attending Volunteer Odyssey’s volunteer speed-dating event, VolunCheers Minute Match. Enjoy an evening getting to know various non-profits from around Memphis in the hopes that you will find your perfect match and place to volunteer in the future. Food and Wiseacre beer will be provided.

10. Kick off the Summer Reading Program: Friday, June 3, from 10:00 am – 1:30 pm or 1:30 pm – 5:00 pm.
We need volunteers for various positions including: Registration, games, events, etc. Looking for volunteers ages 14 and up!
