This Week In Memphis: February 15 - 21, 2016

Here’s what’s going on in Memphis this week, plus a preview of this weekend. Don't forget to submit your upcoming events to the I Love Memphis Calendar.

Monday (Feb. 15)

Team Healing Essence hosts an aromatherapy and essential oils class at 6 p.m. at the Panera Bread on Germantown Parkway.

Kevin Cerrito hosts Zoolander Trivia at Schweinehaus at 8 p.m.

Tuesday (Feb. 16)

MJCC's International Jewish Film Festival will screen "Dough" at the Paradiso at 7:30 p.m. You must buy advanced tickets here.

Dead Soliders and HEELS perform at the New Daisy Theatre at 7 p.m. for the new Service Industry Night series (every third Tuesday). $10 includes cover and beer bust from Wiseacre.

Girlpool, Bobby T, and Small perform at the Hi-tone at 9 p.m. $10, 18+.

Wednesday (Feb. 17)

The Brooks Museum's foreign film series will screen "Jafar Panahi's Taxi" at 7 p.m.

Webern Chamber Choir performs at St. John's Episcopal Church at 7:30 p.m.

Thursday (Feb. 18)

Have Coffee and Conversation with criminal justice advocacy group Just City at The Office at Uptown from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m.

The Dixon will show "Pink Panther Strikes Again" for their Art After Dark night. Begins at 6 p.m. Included in price of admission to the Dixon.

MJCC's International Jewish Film Festival continues with "Zemene" at MJCC (6560 Poplar Ave.) at 7:30 p.m.

Pretty Things Peepshow vaudeville show performs at the Hi-Tone at 8 p.m. $12-$15, 18+

Cicada Rhythm performs at Minglewood Hall; doors at 7 p.m., show at 8 p.m.

The Drum & Dance Soul Party is at the Lamplighter at 11 p.m., featuring drummer Graham Winchester and Ben Bauermeister and DANCING.

Weekend

Friday:

Opening Reception for Lawrence Matthews III: The Marketing Of Perception is at the U of M at 5 p.m.

The Grizz take on the Timberwolves at home at 7 p.m. They play the Raptors away on Sunday at 5 p.m.

Friday live music: School of Rock takes over Club 152 on Beale at 6 p.m. Dylan LeBlanc and Chris Milam perform at Minglewood Hall, doors at 7 p.m. Terry Prince & the Principles at Otherlands at 8 p.m.

"Matters Of The Heart" spoken word and poetry event is at 7 p.m. at 3589 Summer Ave.

Saturday:

The Dixon hosts a 1970s Family Day to celebrate their 40th anniversary on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

STOMP is at the Orpheum Theatre for two showings only, on Saturday at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m.

Attend a reading from Mid-South Poets at the Cordova Library on Saturday at 3 p.m.

The Hi-Tone hosts a "Bands For Bernie" benefit with a dozen local bands starting at 7 p.m. $5. 18+.

The Memphis Symphony Orchestra performs "Bolero!" (music from Bolero, West Side Story, and Romeo & Juliet) on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at the Cannon Center.

MJCC's International Jewish Film Festival continues on Saturday at 8 p.m with a screening of "The Last Mentsch".

You Look Like A Comedy Show roasting tournament featuring local comics and improvisers insulting each other in hilarious way is at The P&H on Saturday at 9 p.m.

Goner Presents NOTS, Trampoline Team, Aquarian Blood at Murphy's at 9 p.m. $8. 21+ Get adv. tickets for $5 at Goner Records.

Sunday:

Youth Villages will host the 27th annual Soup Sunday at FedExForum from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. More than 50 area restaurants will offer all manner of soups, gumbos, stews, chilis, plus snacks and desserts. Get tickets here.

MJCC's International Jewish Film Festival continues on Sunday at 1 p.m. with "TouchDown Israel" and 6:30 p.m. with "Deli Man".

*The Green Beetle hosts a "Throw Me A Bone" fundraiser to support ALIVE Rescue Memphis from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. $6 admission includes your first beer; bring money for raffle with cool dog and people prizes.

The Memphis Symphony Orchestra performs "Bolero!" (music from Bolero, West Side Story, and Romeo & Juliet) on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at GPAC.

Marlowe Shepard performs at Spin Street Music on Sunday at noon on at the Lamplighter at 8 p.m.

*Jimmy Ogle will host another free Fairground Tour on Sunday at 2 p.m.  Tour begins at north parking lot of the Coliseum.

*MGLCC hosts a fundraiser for the Metamorphosis Project from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Hilton Memphis. Tickets are $40 per person or two for $75; admission includes wine, beer, and appetizers, live auction, and live music from Alex da Ponte.

Goner Presents: Ty Segall & the Muggers w/ Ex-Cult & Axis: Sova plus Goner DJs at the Hi-Tone starting at 8 p.m. All ages. $15 advance tickets; $17 day-of-show tickets. Cash only.
