Go to the Great Wine Performances at Playhouse on the Square (Giveaway Ended)

If you like wine or theatre or trivia, this event is for you. Next Tuesday, August 18, Playhouse on the Square will host the 9th annual Great Wine Performances at its midtown theatre from 6 p.m. - 8 p.m. I'm giving away two tickets. (Giveaway Ended)

Grab a friend and stroll around the theatre to ten different wine-tasting tables, each hosted by a full-costumed performer. Answer the actor's questions to win prizes, sip wine, and support Memphis' only professional theatre.

This year's trivia theme is "Which came first - Broadway or Hollywood?"

In order to win a pair of tickets ($100 value) leave me a comment here telling me your favorite Broadway show that was made into a movie...or vice versa.

I'll do a random drawing on Friday afternoon at 1 p.m.  (giveaway ended)

Update: We had a donor offer up a second pair of tickets, so I was able to do two drawings: Congrats to our winners Brooke Dobson and Melissa Russell!

If you didn't win, go ahead and save your spot now. Tickets are $50 in advance or $65 at the door, and you must be 21 to go.

Go there:

Easy! My favorite has to be Grease. Classic movie. ...wait... Well, it may be The Rocky Horro Picture Show. Both are fantastic in my book. The only thing I love more than movies is live theatre - and wine! Hope I win!

How do you measure a year? I loved the Broadway version and the movie. Made me look at 'Detective Green' (Jesse L. Martin) so differently. :)  I moved to Memphis a little over a year ago and the measuring this year by the I Love Memphis blog.  I'd love to play trivia and see some shows at the Playhouse. Thanks for your contribution to making Memphis cool.

Annie Get Your Gun. It was like being on drugs without the drugs. I think it might have launched the counter-culture movements of the 1960's and 70's against the combined wills of the cast, crew, and studio. What respectable citizen of any mid-south burg doesn't love a girl who's good with a gun?

I'm gonna have to say Sweeny Todd for this. IMHO it's exactly how Todd should be done on screen; dark, limited colour palette, raw, not-quite-Broadway-quality vocals, and gory!

Sweeney Todd is my favorite show that was made into a film! The original Broadway cast was phenomenal and the movie cast wasn't too shabby. Although Johhny Depp's vocal ability was questionable for a Sondheim piece, it worked because, Johnny Depp.

Probably Chicago. I enjoyed it so much when I saw it at the Orpheum but even more when I saw the movie. Catherine Zeta Jones just nailed Velma. The Fosse choreography was on point and the songs are all great. Definitely helped revive my love of theater.
