Memphis' Biggest Weekend Ever
Memphis' Biggest Weekend Ever
People have been saying it for a few weeks now, but this weekend in Memphis is arguably one of the best, biggest, and busiest…ever. I know there have been a few recent contenders - 2011, the year of the Mississippi River flood, music fest, and Grizzlies playoffs comes close - but this is a pretty exciting time.
Here's why this weekend is so tremendous. It's not taking the place of my "5 Things To Do In Memphis This Weekend" post - that'll be up tomorrow.
- Beale Street Music Fest
Memphis In May kicks off with Beale Street Music Fest at Tom Lee Park all weekend. Gates open at 5 p.m. on Friday and at 1 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. If you want to see the lineup with days, go here. MemphisInMay.Org has the times and stages here.

- All weekend: Bass Pro Pyramid
This will be the first weekend for our re-opened shiny landmark. I've written about it a few times this week, so check these two posts: "What You Need To Know About Bass Pro" for all the details on visiting and "50 Things I Saw At The Bass Pro Pyramid" for a recap of my tour and tons of photos.
I'm doing something pretty exciting next week to conclude my coverage on the Bass Pro opening, so stay tuned on Monday for the scoop.
- Brewery Revival
I feel like the Tennessee Brewery serves as a great compliment to Memphis in May activities. It's a place to stop by for a beer, some food, a place to sit (space permitting, of course). It's open from lunch until late Thursdays through Sundays.
Go here to read more about Brewery Revival.
- Latino Memphis Fest

Not feeling downtown this weekend? That's OK, too. Spend Saturday at Overton Park celebrating the growing Hispanic culture in Memphis at the Latino Memphis Fest and Cinco-K-Mayo 5K. The race starts at 9 a.m. and the party goes 'til 4 p.m. with music, tons of food, shopping, and a salsa tasting contest. Read more here.
Weather
Now, I don't want to jinx anything, but as of right now (Thursday) the Weather Channel predicts sunny, 70s and low 80s, and zero percent chance of rain. It's going to be fantastic.
The Grizzlies
We beat out Portland and now it's time to defeat the Golden State Warriors in Round Two of the Western Conference Semifinals. We play Game 1 on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. in California.
Go here to see some suggestions on where to watch or the schedule, or head to the TN Brewery or contact the Rec Room to rent out a screen to watch with friends.
We've got company.
This weekend Memphis has guests: a few extra tens of thousands of people, many of whom have never been here before. Let's show our visitors a good time by being extra hospitable, giving directions, and just helping out folks who look like they're trying to get around.
Cheers!
