5 Things To Do in Memphis This Weekend: 10/24 – 10/26

Happy Friday, Memphis. Here are the five things you won't want to miss this weekend.

1. River Arts Fest, South Main Arts District, Friday – Sunday, free Friday night / $5 Saturday and Sunday, all ages/kid-friendly
During River Arts Fest, hundreds of local and national artists, craftsmen and bands pack the South Main Arts District for three days of selling, music, demonstrations, hands-on activities and fun. It's completely family friendly, and worth the price of admission, especially for the tons of musical acts.

2. Spooky Nights, Shelby Farms Park, Fridays and Saturdays in October, plus Nov. 1, 7 p.m. – 10 p.m. $5 – $10 per activity, all ages except for the Haunted Trail, which is ages 12 and up

Every Friday and Saturday night in October, Shelby Farms Park celebrates Halloween with a Haunted Nature Trail, Zombie Laser Tag, and a Headless Horseman Hayride, as well as a Nocturnal Nature Hike. Every year, the Spooky Nights team goes all out – trust me, I did a behind-the-scenes tour last night and was so impressed – and this year is no exception!

3. Art on Fire, Dixon Gallery & Gardens, Oct. 25, 7 p.m., $60 members/$75 non-members, 21 and up

Art on Fire 2013 @ the Dixon Art Gallery
The Dixon's biggest party of the year has a very fall, festive event on Saturday, October 25. For your ticket price, you can expect fire dancers, live music from Bluff City Backsliders and Grace Askew, artists demonstrations, food from more than 20 of Memphis' best restaurants, plus beer an wine.

4. The Purgening: Shangri-La Records Yard Sale and Purgefest,  Saturday, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m., free to attend, all ages/kid-friendly

Shangri-la Christmas Party
If you like music, this one's for you. Thousands of LPs, 45s, 78s, and CDs for a $1 or less and 20 percent off the entire store. There will also be a free show at 2 p.m. from Marcella and Rory.

5. Live From Memphis Slim's, 1130 College Street, Saturday, 1 p.m. – 5 p.m., free, all ages/kid-friendly

Enjoy a free concert in the Memphis Slim house in the heart of Soulsville USA (right next to the Stax Museum) this Saturday afternoon. Juju Bushman (soul/rock/folk) will perform live on the porch, while Hope Clayburn (funk/soul), Tonya Dyson (soul/jazz), and Preauxx (hip hop) will offer sessions inside. Artist Jamond Bullock will have his music-inspired art on display as well. Did I mention it's totally free to enjoy these amazing Memphis music makers?

A few other ideas: Threepenny Theatre's #BLESSED original play, Mississippi RiverKings' home opener weekend, An Evening With Friends of the Fort party and Marine hospital tours, and most of the halloween-y events on this guide. Have a great weekend and don't forget to tag your photos #ilovememphis and they might show up here on Monday!
