5 Things To Do in Memphis This Weekend: 5/23 – 5/25
Happy Friday and Happy Memorial Day Weekend, Memphis! Here are the five things you won't want to miss this weekend.
1. Macy's Zoo Brew, Memphis Zoo, Friday, 7 p.m. – 10 p.m., $35, 21 and up
The plan: Grab some friends, get in line to try a unique beer, wait in line for the next beer while you drink it, repeat. Zoo Brew will also have live music, entertainment, and food. Pro tip: Skip the drama of parking/driving after drinking and take a cab (901-577-7777) or try out Lyft or Uber.
2. Levitt Shell Concert Series, Levitt Shell, Friday – Sunday, 7:30 p.m. nightly, free, all ages
Start off the Levitt Shell's summer concert series with three free shows this weekend. Friday's concert is a group of musicians (Jody Stephens, Van Duren, Star & Micey, and Pat Sasone from Wilco) playing Big Star's "Sister Lovers" album. Saturday is bluegrass group The Hillbenders, and Sunday is Memphis soul act Gedeon Luke and the the People.
3. Bark After Dark, Shelby Farms, Friday, 8 p.m., $25 – $50, all ages
Usually, the bike trails at Shelby Farms are closed after sundown, but tonight you can take a lit-up night ride and celebrate at a big afterparty with barbecue, beer, and music to benefit the Humane Society of Memphis and Shelby County. Read the full post here.
4. Sunset Symphony, Tom Lee Park, Saturday, gates open at 2 p.m., $9 or free under age 6, all ages
Another successful Memphis in May comes to an end this weekend with the Sunset Symphony in Tom Lee Park. Bring your family, your lawn chairs and picnics to the park to hear the Stax Academy at 4:30 p.m., see an air show at 5:30 p.m. and listen to the Memphis Symphony Orchestra's annual pops concert at 7:30 p.m., culminating in a fireworks display over the Mississippi.
5. Time Warp Drive-In, Summer Drive In, Saturday, dusk, $10 per person, 18 and up
Stay up all night at the Summer Drive In and watch 20 years worth of work from underground cinema director Mike Mccarthy, with live music at intermissions. Film lineup: "Elvis Meets The Beatles", "Cigarette Girl", "Teenage Tupelo", "The Sore Losers", and "Superstarlet A.D."
